The Cowboys lost standout linebacker DeMarvion Overshown to a devastating knee injury in Week 14. John breaks down the impact it will have on the rest of 2024 and 2025.
He was playing the best football of his life, regularly making splash plays, shining through a combination of excellent instincts, size, and athleticism, and had made great strides in his understanding of many aspects of the game in the offseason. Sadly, it'll be quite some time before we can see him play again.

How Does Overshown's Injury Impact The Cowboys?
The second-year pro picked up his latest ailment on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals. As he was being blocked by a Bengals offensive lineman, another OL player fell on his leg, bending it in the wrong direction at the knee at an extreme angle.

The unfortunate accident tore Overshown's ACL, PCL, and MCL. Multi-ligament tears in the knee are devastating injuries that take a long time to overcome. There's a strong chance he will never be the same player he was before. Injuries such as this one can destroy careers.

D.O. made a huge impact that showed up on both the film and the stat sheet for the Cowboys this year. He generated turnovers, sometimes purely through incredible effort, generated pressure, sacked opposing quarterbacks on plenty of occasions, and seemed to be all over the field at times.

He had already racked up a ton of tackles, made clutch plays, stuffed runs often, forced incomplete passes, made stops on third and fourth downs, and more. It's hard to overstate his impact on the defense, and the duo of him and defensive end Micah Parsons made life a nightmare for opposing offenses.

He had excellent quickness and was able to dart to both sides of the field quickly as well as get into the backfield. He was often seen making heads-up plays like the one above as well. Dallas was already struggling to defend the run, and now it may have to look to the draft to replace its star LB.
The defense could take a step back without him next year, and his potential absence might alter the team's draft plans. It'll likely make an effort to sign an LB to replace him or invest an early or middle-round pick in someone to step into his shoes. The team is lacking in several other positions, so this will likely have reverberating impacts in 2025.
And the Cowboys really won't be good.
