Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/17) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Wednesday, September 18th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 18th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Cavan Biggio puts it on spin cycle. 14HR, 13SB. .230AVG could use some TLC.
  • Luis Severino carrying a 0.00ERA this season. "Psst, it’s only been four innings.” I don’t care!
  • Gleyber Torres doubles 2018 HR total. “That would be 48, not 38, dummy.” Ok, I was told there would be no math.
  • Trey Mancini only 84% owned?! Four HR in five games. 99R, 34HR, 88RBI.
  • Jonathan Villar w/22nd HR to package w/35SB & .277AVG. Top-three round pick.
  • Castillo, Morton, Bieber, Kershaw, Buehler, Corbin, Nola, Ryu. Marco Gonzales has more wins(16) than all of them. ‘W’ category is luck, not skill.
  • Omar Narvaez, back from his Aug hiatus, has three long balls and .286 in Sep to help your stretch run. Best Omar Award: The Wire.
  • Mike Yastrzemski w/HR in Fenway. Just like old times. 20HR in 335 at-bats. Late bloomin’ 29-year-old.
  • Stream to Scream. You wanted to stream Nate Eovaldi? Go ahead and scream for 4IP, 5ER.
  • How long do we do this, Jackie-boy? 19HR, 7SB, .221AVG isn’t cutting the mustard, Jackie Bradley Jr. Yeah, yeah. All about the defense.
  • Adam Plutko w/effortless W(Seven). 6IP, 2ER, 6K. Thank you, Tigers. Your service will be ever appreciated.
  • People dismissing power/speed package.29% owned Oscar Mercado swiftly ejects his 12th long ball.
  • Adam Duvall still mashing taters? That is so July of you.
  • Ooh, here he comes. Watch out boy, he’ll chew you up! Ooh, here he comes. He’s a base-stealer! Ronald Acuna w/37.
  • Is Kyle Schwarber better than Rhys Hoskins?!
  • Felipe Vazquez did what?! Terrible. Pete Rose did what?!
  • Is 35HR enough to get Mike Moustakas a “long-term” two-year contract?
  • Hey! Hey! Hey! It’s Matt Albers. 8th W.
  • Chris Paddack harnessed nine wild horses in five innings.
  • Miguel Sano w/10.3%Brls/PA. 30HR. Mid-round power option in 2020 w/upside.
  • Chase-Masters Delight: Tim Anderson (44.9%Chase) still w/.336AVG, 17HR, 16SB.
  • There he goes again. Harrison Bader w/11th SB. Just need to get him on base. .321OBP.
  • Corbin, My Man! 6IP, 0ER, 11K. That’s exactly what the owners need. No, not me. I wasn’t smart enough to draft you, Patrick Corbin.
  • Aristides Aquino trying to remind us he’s more than a flash in the pan (16th HR)
  • 22K between Sonny Gray & Yu Darvish. Darvish w/larger share. Gray w/W(11).
  • Justin Verlander cuts the ribbon on the 19 Win Club & walks in alone, like a boss!
  • Don’t deny yourself the pleasures in 2020. Don’t be frugal and get one Astros hitter. Get some or even lots of them.
  • Alex Bregman is the MVP of our LSU hearts.
  • Yordan Alvarez (26HR in 282AB) chasing down Yuli Gurriel(29HR in 536AB).
  • Wow! Sharing is not caring w/Peter Alonso & MLB-leading 48th HR. (Alonso is great for buying whole team Patriotic cleats for 9/11)
  • Yes, Charlie Blackmon, the breakfast burrito from Wawa is delicious but combined w/a coffee does not a combo meal make. 29th HR/no steal.
  • Rojas v. Rojas. Miguel Rojas wins. 4-for-6 w/6RBI.
  • Matt Olson (35th crowd-pleaser) gives Joey Gallo hope.
  • Go ahead, Mr. Wendle. Joey Wendle w/four SB in last 15 games.
  • Cody Bellinger puts a little more glitter on his jacket. 13SB to go with 44HR, 223R+RBI, .304AVG.
  • Have a great Wednesday. Halfway towards the weekend. Just the start of plenty more life. Enjoy the day.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
