Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the Saturday, August 17th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 17th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • With a THUN-DAH! Cody Bellinger elbows Mike Trout to the chest to claim the HR lead(41) for himself. Mike Trout grabs the elbow, twists it so he can pull up beside Cody with his own THUNDERRRR! (41).
  • Derek Johnson, holla at ya boy Luis Castillo. His feelings might be hurt. 4.1IP, 8ER.
  • Adrian Houser, you’re trying to make me intrigued, aren’t you?
  • Low score & still high value w/Trea Turner(26) & Victor Robles(19) stealing bases.
  • Orlando Arcia is not taking advantage of valuable situation. Is there upside in 2020? 87.1mph exit velo. 52%Ground ball rate. Some work needs to be done.
  • Obi-Wan Charlie (Manuel) reveals the truth, “Use the force, Bryce.” Bryce Harper is enlightened. 8HR, 18RBI, 2SB, .271AVG last 15 days.
  • Top-catcher race heating up if J.T. Realmuto is on track w/three HR in last four games.
  • Sending Chris Paddack to face the rejuvenated Phillies was not smart.
  • Fernando Tatis Jr. lost for the season? Even w/only 334AB, Tatis will be a top-two round draft pick in 2020. Agree?
  • Here comes more playing time for Luis Urias now at SS, batting leadoff.
  • Joe Musgrove, you confuse me w/your efforts. Pot luck of game outcomes.
  • The laughter is so LOUD. Jose Ramirez w/hearty belly laugh at non-believers. 12HR, 34RBI, 5SB, .331AVG last 30 days. Maybe it was my obnoxious laugh that was louder.
  • Yasiel Puig making himself right at home in his new digs (24HR).
  • Aroldis Chapman w/MLB-leading 34 saves. Wow.
  • People w/completely forget Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s start to his career. Rightfully so. (14HR, .275AVG.) Potential value if people downgrade him.
  • Danny Jansen trying to recuperate some value w/three taters in last week.
  • Oh my goodness. I can’t wait for 2020 drafts. I’m going to get Mookie Betts at pick five. Get here already!
  • Rick Porcello w/11 wins(5.49ERA). Can someone tell me how this works again?
  • 10HR in 51AB?! HOT DAMN! Aristides Aquino making his presence felt.
  • 10HR in 76AB is pretty darn good too. Will Smith is young hotshot w/less fanfare.
  • Dexter Fowler is alive!! 14th HR.
  • Paul Goldschmidt is strictly a long-ball hitter(27). You get nothing else. It is a sad day.
  • “Thanks for the run support, guys” ~ Charlie Morton loses to the Tigers?! 7IP, 0ER, 10K was beautiful though.
  • Dustin May to the bullpen?! You better be trying the Starter-as-a-Chaser technique.
  • Ronald Acuna carves another notch in SB(29) staff. 40HR/35SB-Club bouncer, did you just pee yourself?
  • In today’s Five For Five episode, Justin Turner makes up for lost time. Five HR(22) in five games.
  • Who is seventh overall in muscle-flexing? Max Kepler w/33HR. WUNDERBAR!!
  • Schoop & Serve! Jonathan Schoop attempts to remain relevant w/17th long-ball.
  • Another five games in Arlington. Grab your Rangers.
  • Nomar Mazara’s hitting is coming around. Will the power follow?
  • With three great starts, Mike Montgomery is an option. 2.30ERA(3.40FIP) since 25 July. 19.1%K-BB.
  • Sir, you must hurry if you want to at least get your 30/20-club card revalidated. Trevor Story.
  • Might Nolan Arenado be the outlier that does worst in this Pinky Wall Ball generation(28HR)?
  • Mike Yastrzemski with the three-scoop sundae. 16HR, .272AVG. Surprise. It’s great for baseball.
  • Ketel Marte(25HR) & Eduardo Escobar(28HR) continue to inflate 2020 draft stock. I will not own them, but someone I want will drop to me.
  • Have we discussed Nick Ahmed? RHETORICAL QUESTION!
  • Marcus Semien w/delicious combo meal. (20/7)
  • Lucas Giolito in 13-Win club? Talk about a career turn-around.
  • Have a great Saturday. Enjoy the day. It might be sunny, but make it brighter.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
