Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (4/12) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the April 13th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 12th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Shohei Ohtani w/ the 119 mph "All You Get" Dragon Punch double. Huh?! That's not what Ryu in Street Fighter said? What did he say then?
  • !!!Silliness. Can someone check Tyler Glasnow's baseballs for whiffleball-ness. (7.2 IP, 14K)
  • Yu Darvish is healthy & studly. W, 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 K.
  • Ramon Laureano is a full-on kleptomaniac. Seven SB.
  • Oooh, check out the acceleration of Manny Machado (first SB).
  • First-round pick Gerrit Cole provides.
  • He's back. Kyle Higashioka (two HR) mashing Fritos to go with hot sauce that he put into his chili. Oh, he's a baaad man.
  • Wil Myers strikes his third pose on the dance floor.
  • Robbie Ray looks respectable w/ dust knocked off (5 IP, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K)
  • Willy Adames w/ his second HR. Zero barrels yet.
  • Maybe Yoshihira Tsutsugo shouldn't be a leadoff guy.
  • Dane Dunning w/ four innings of two-hit ball. Pulled at 71 pitches. He's lookin good though.
  • It's like Black Friday. People are at home making a list of players they will attempt to invest in this weekend.
  • Huascar Ynoa put himself on the list. Primarily fastball (54% Whiff)/slider (35% Whiff) mix. Downright NASTY!
  • He's electric! Boogie-woogie-woogie. Ronald Acuna Jr. w/ thirrd SB.
  • Kris Bryant hits third long ball. Where is the Love?! Here it is, young man......LOVE!
  • Nats brought in reinforcements. (Josh Bell & Kyle Schwarber were 3-for-8.)
  • Yadier Molina (two) takes another swing at ageists.
  • Andrew Stevenson (first HR) brings some Louisiana Pride off the bench.
  • Ever met the little old man at the park that is so sweet? Anyway...Zack Greinke handing out three free passes to the fireworks show.
  • Carlos Correa w/ third long-distance delivery. I thought he got out of the mail business.
  • **Insert pleasantly surprised look here** Casey Mize tames Astros 7 IP, 0 ER, 5 K). OAK & KC next.
  • Alex Cobb w/ 19 Whiffs (5.2 IP, 3 ER, 10 K). Everyone runs to him in romantic slow motion. Wait til they realize MIN & HOU are next.
  • Mike Trout puts a little touch on his 366 ft pass. Count it for #4 (HR).
  • Hmmm, there will be many people dropping Kyle Isbel this weekend. It was fun.
  • Eddie Rosario (second HR) getting mighty cozy in his new digs.
  • Madison Bumgarner experience is like six flags trying to reintroduce an old ride. You thought it was gonna be great, but it's just the older bumpier version.
  • Welcome back, Kole Calhoun (3-for-4)

Baseball Savant Leaderboard is out (What? Am I late?)

Hits over 95 mph
Barrels/PA
  • Ohtani (19.5%); Max EV 119 mph

Swing & Misses

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • Good mornin', Good mornin'. People are going to say and do stuff to get under your skin, intentionally or not. Try to remember that you control how things affect you. I know it is hard in the moment. You are the one that is left with stress when the other person leaves. Remove the stress so the future you doesn't have to deal with it.
  • Have a great Tuesday. We're all having coffee/tea/chocolate milk to get our day started. Find you a bottle of Yoohoo and chug it down. Start your day off right.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
