Bennedict Mathurin is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 9 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 55% of leagues
ANALYSIS: I guess I will just assume Bennedict Mathurin's rostership will never break the 60-percent barrier in his rookie season. If it hasn't at this point, it just never will ROS even if that doesn't make sense at all.
Mathurin keeps playing off-the-pine minutes for the Pacers and doing so to fantastic extents. His bench role definitely lowers his upside, yes, but that's not a big enough reason to not have this man rostered in nearly every league and ready to deploy when needed.
This might be a window of opportunity to add Mathurin to your teams as he's coming off a small shooting slump in which he only hit 17-of-57 FGA over four games to start December. That said, the volume was so high (10, 15, 16, and 16 FGA) that he still found a way to score double-digits finishing with 10+ points in each of those matches.
Mathurin is a legitimate bucket-getter but he also comes with some upside in the rebounds and steals categories. The dimes are low as he's looking for shots more often than not.
Not the most efficient of players (mostly because he's logging 28 MPG), Mathurin is on the other hand on a total of 770+ minutes through Saturday and he's keeping up 4+ RPG and 0.6+ SPG averages on that bulky playing time.
Only the rookie, Kelly Olynyk, and Bruce Brown are doing so over those many minutes playing fewer than 30 MPG. Remove the MPG restriction from the filter and add another one (18+ PPG) and Mathurin is one of only 25 players with 18+ points, 4+ rebounds, and 0.6+ steals per contest.
