Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Jon Lester Allows Four Runs Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester allowed four runs over five innings on Wednesday versus the Pirates. Lester gave up seven hits and three walks. He only recorded three strikeouts, and has been a mixed bag of results early on this season. Lester took a big step back last year, but fantasy owners shouldn’t give […]

Javier Baez Hits Fourth Home Run In Two Days

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez hit his third and fourth home runs Wednesday evening versus the Pirates. Baez now has four home runs over the past two games. He finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored and also drew a walk. Baez is on fire right now and should be started […]

Kris Bryant Continues Strong Start In 2018

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant went 3-for-5 to continue his hot start to the season. Bryant had two doubles and a single and also drove in two runs while scoring once. Bryant is locked and loaded as one of the best hitters in the game and is now hitting .348 on the season.

Albert Almora Picks Up Three Hits Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora picked up three hits in five at-bats Wednesday night. Almora also scored two runs. Manager Joe Maddon has been platooning Almora with outfielder Ian Happ, with Almora exclusively starting versus left-handed pitchers. Neither Almora nor Happ has run away with the center field job, making Almora more worth monitoring than […]

Austin Jackson Leaves Wednesday’s Game Early With Tight Groin

San Francisco Giants outfielder Austin Jackson (groin) left Wednesday’s game in the seventh inning with a tight groin. Manager Bruce Bochy said he was removed as a precaution. Jackson was 1-for-2 with a single, run and walk before being replaced by Gregor Blanco. It sounds like Jackson’s status is day-to-day and he will hope to […]

Buster Posey Continues Hot Start With Another Home Run Wednesday

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey hit his second home run of the season Wednesday afternoon versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Posey has been off to a hot start, hitting .389 so far. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Andrew Suarez Strikes Out Seven In Major League Debut

Making his major league debut, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez went 5 1/3 innings. Suarez allowed four runs, but looked good and struck out seven batters. He also didn’t issue a walk during his outing. Suarez is worth a look in NL-only leagues and worth monitoring in deeper leagues. However, owners should be […]

White Sox Option Gregory Infante

The Chicago White Sox have sent relief pitcher Gregory Infante to Triple-A Charlotte. Infante has struggled this year with a 16.62 ERA in just 4 1/3 innings. Infante had a good year in 2017 and figures to be back up with the White Sox once he figures out his kinks. He has zero fantasy value, […]

Matt Davidson Hits Fifth Home Run On Wednesday

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson hit his fifth home run of the season Wednesday afternoon versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Davidson has been boom or bust this season as expected, but if you are looking for power, he may be your guy at the moment. Just be aware that if he’s not on […]

Nate Jones Picks Up First Save

With Chicago White Sox closer Joakim Soria serving up four runs (three earned) in his last save opportunity, manager Rick Renteria went with reliever Nate Jones in the ninth inning on Wednesday. Jones allowed a walk but struck out two batters to secure the win versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Jones has more upside than Soria, but […]

James Shields Walks Five Batters Wednesday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher James Shields allowed one run on four hits and struck out five batters Wednesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Shields did walk five batters in the game, but it was still his best performance of the year. Shields has struggled over the past few seasons and should be on the […]

Victor Caratini Starts At First Base Wednesday

The Chicago Cubs will continue to shift backup catcher Victor Caratini over to first base with Anthony Rizzo (back) sidelined. It will be Caratini's fourth start there, and he is 4-for-16 in his starts. Caratini will hit sixth Wednesday but can be avoided in all formats.

Ian Happ And Kyle Schwarber On The Bench Wednesday Versus Pirates

Chicago Cubs outfielders Ian Happ and Kyle Schwarber will sit out on Wednesday versus the Pirates. Both outfielders had strong springs, but have both struggled early on this season. Albert Almora will hit first and is worthy of DFS consideration, as he makes a living off of left-handed pitching. Ben Zobrist will handle the duties […]

Tyler Beede To Start Sunday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tyler Beede will make his second start Sunday versus the San Diego Padres. Beede allowed five walks in his major league debut on Tuesday and lasted just four innings in which he allowed two runs versus the Diamondbacks. Beede will look for better results Sunday and is an arm to […]

Madison Bumgarner Transferred To 60-Day Disabled List

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (hand) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list. MadBum wasn’t expected to be back until June and won’t be able to be activated before May 25.

Steven Okert Optioned To Triple-A, Andrew Suarez Called Up To Start Wednesday

The San Francisco Giants have optioned relief pitcher Steven Okert to Triple-A. Okert was called up prior to Tuesday’s game and did not make an appearance. Starting pitcher Andrew Suarez  will take his spot on the big league roster and start Wednesday in a tough matchup versus the Diamondbacks. Suarez can be avoided in all formats.

Will Smith Ready To Return May 1

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Will Smith (elbow) is on track to return to the big leagues on May 1. Smith has been recovering from Tommy John surgery. He likely won’t be placed into high-leverage situations out of the gate and can be avoided in all leagues.

Omar Narvaez Will Start For Welington Castillo Wednesday

With Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo (knee) day-to-day with a sore right knee, backup catcher Omar Narvaez will start behind the plate and bat ninth. Castillo should be fine, according to manager Rick Renteria, and he is considered day-to-day. Narvaez can be avoided in all formats.

Welington Castillo Day-To-Day With Sore Right Knee

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo (knee) is day-to-day with a sore right knee. Castillo hurt his knee when his spike got stuck while throwing out C.J. Cron in the top of the sixth inning on Tuesday. Castillo was pinch hit for in the bottom half of the inning. Manager Rick Renteria said if Castillo […]

Tyler Beede Walks Five Batters In Major League Debut

San Francisco Giants top pitching prospect Tyler Beede only lasted four innings in his major league debut versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Beede gave up two runs, three hits and struck out three batters, but walked five. Beede faced a tough offense Tuesday and if he can limit his walks, he should improve. He will battle […]

Andrew McCutchen Leads Giants To Walk-Off Victory

San Francisco Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday to give the Giants the victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. McCutchen finished the game 1-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI and two walks. McCutchen now has two walk-off hits for his new team in the […]

Hunter Strickland Blows First Save, Picks Up Win

San Francisco Giants closer Hunter Strickland blew his first save of the season Tuesday evening. Strickland served up a solo home run to Paul Goldschmidt to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. Strickland was bailed out by outfielder Andrew McCutchen’s game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to give Strickland his […]

Mark Melancon Not Making Any Progress

San Francisco Giants closer Mark Melancon (forearm) hasn’t made any progress since starting the season on the disabled list. Melancon has yet to even throw a ball and there is no timetable for his return. Melancon had pronator muscle surgery towards the end of last year and has not fully recovered. He also is dealing […]

Jeff Samardzija To Make One More Rehab Start

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (pectoral) will make one more rehab start after feeling good during his most recent outing on Monday. It’s a good sign that Samardzija hasn’t had any setbacks since he went down with the injury. It appears that he will be back much sooner than originally expected and could […]

Giants Place Johnny Cueto On Disabled List

The San Francisco Giants have placed starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (ankle) on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain. It’s a shame, as Cueto has been off to a hot start. Pitcher Albert Suarez is expected to start Wednesday in place of Cueto, and the club also promoted pitcher Steven Okert to take Cueto’s […]

Johnny Cueto Expected To Miss Wednesday’s Start, Could Be Placed On DL

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (ankle) tweaked his ankle while working out over the weekend. The Giants have yet to decide if Cueto will land on the disabled list, but pitching prospect Andrew Suarez was spotted with the team Tuesday, but no roster move has been made yet. Keep an eye out for […]

Jose Abreu Hits Third Home Run In 2018

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu hit his third home run of the season Tuesday afternoon. Abreu is now up to a .268 batting average with three home runs and six RBI. Abreu finished 2-for-5 and remains one of the most consistent hitters in the league.

Adam Eaton Scratched From Tuesday’s Lineup

Washington Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton (ankle) has been scratched from Tuesday’s lineup with a left ankle bone bruise. There is no word on how serious the injury is, and the Nationals will likely say more after Tuesday’s game. It comes at a bad time for the Nationals if they were to lose Eaton to the […]

Joe Panik Recieves A Day Off On Tuesday

The San Francisco Giants will rest second baseman Joe Panik on Tuesday as they square off versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. With left-hander Patrick Corbin on the hill, manager Bruce Bochy figured it would be a good time to rest Panik. Panik has been a hit waiver wire pickup early in the season and as long […]

Carson Fulmer Allows Six Walks In Loss Tuesday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carson Fulmer struggled with his control Tuesday afternoon versus the Tampa Bay Rays. In 4 1/3 innings, Fulmer allowed four runs (three earned), five hits, six walks and struck out four. Fulmer is in the rotation because Carlos Rodon (shoulder) is on the disabled list and top pitching prospect Michael […]
