Twins Send Willians Astudillo Down

The Minnesota Twins optioned catcher Willians Astudillo to Triple-A Rochester on Friday night. The Twins just couldn't get by with three catchers on their roster any longer, so Astudillo was the one to go over Jason Castro and Mitch Garver, who are both swinging very hot bats this season. Astudillo was hitting .250/.273/.357 with two homers, 16 runs and 11 RBI in 112 at-bats. His contact-oriented approach allows him to strike out very rarely (five times), but Astudillo also only has four walks in the last two seasons in 218 plate appearances. The playing time just wasn't there for him, so he'll go to the farm and work on some things. Astudillo will be in play again in two-catcher leagues whenever he comes back up.
