When New York Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki went down on April 12 with a fractured hand, the original timetable for recovery was estimated at three or four weeks. Unfortunately, that timeline has now been bumped up to a month. Plawecki’s grip strength hasn’t improved, and that is obviously terrible news for the Mets. Doing the simple math here, it would seem as though a mid-May return for Plawecki would be the best-case scenario, but late-May is probably more realistic once he starts getting into rehab games. The Mets will continue to roll with Jose Lobaton and Tomas Nido behind the dish, but there have been rumors that the team would explore trade talks if Plawecki was going to miss more time, which is now the case.--John Smith
