Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Konnor Griffin has made headlines since making his professional debut last season. Konnor Griffin Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
On Saturday afternoon, the Pirates opted to send their top prospect to minor-league camp. In spring training, Griffin held his own, despite being only 19 years old, as he hit four home runs and swiped a bag while carrying a .184 AVG. Even though Griffin has yet to even take an at-bat at the Triple-A level, the budding superstar flashed his high-end raw power against MLB-caliber pitching.

Even though Griffin is poised to begin his regular season in the minor leagues, managers should continue to closely monitor his status. Given that he looked quite comfortable in the lower levels of the minor leagues last summer, Griffin could begin the 2026 season in Triple-A, putting him just one step away from joining the Pirates.
Konnor Griffin Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
Last summer, Griffin immediately made an impact in the minor leagues, which pushed him to the top of all prospect boards. Through 122 games (split among Low-A, High-A, and Double-A), the young infielder posted an elite .333/.415/.527 slash line with 21 home runs and 65 stolen baes. He was at his best at Double-A (21 games), where he carried a .337/.418/.542 line with an elite .960 OPS.
Given his five-category potential, Griffin should remain rostered in all formats. Even though he will not begin the regular season in the major leagues as his ADP may have suggested, he should not be dropped, as he will be a high-end contributor once he earns the call.
Managers should continue to closely monitor his status early in the regular season, as he could make a strong case to join Pittsburgh before the start of May. While he continues his development, managers should expect Nick Gonzales to serve as the starting shortstop in the Steel City, who carries low-end middle infield value in deeper 15-team leagues.
