Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 14:
Adonani Mitchell, WR, Jets
New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell has seen his stock rise since being traded to the New York Jets and being provided the opportunity to line up as the Jets' No. 1 wide receiver with Garrett Wilson (knee) on the Injured Reserve. In his three games since playing with the Jets, he's seen 25 targets and hauled in 11 of them for 154 receiving yards and a touchdown.
His breakout game came in Week 13, where he went for over 100 receiving yards and a score. With Tyrod Taylor under center and the passing attack looking better the last few weeks for the Jets, Mitchell will hold WR3/flex fantasy value moving forward, especially while Wilson remains sidelined.
Devaughn Vele, WR, Saints
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Devaughn Vele has been earning more playing time over the past three games, and in the last two specifically, he has been making the most of his opportunities. Over the past two weeks, he has earned 15 targets and hauled in 11 of them for 130 receiving yards and one touchdown. Over the past three games for the Saints, he has played 87 percent or more of the snaps, whereas before Week 10, he hadn't played more than 51 percent. The departure of Rashid Shaheed opened the opportunity for Vele to step up.
He has built a solid relationship with rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, and because of that, he has worked his way onto the radar as a relevant fantasy option moving forward. Chris Olave remains the Saints' clear No. 1 receiver; however, Vele has seen his value rise and is worth a look in deeper formats.
Michael Wilson, WR, Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson went off in a two-game stretch across Weeks 11 and 12, recording 25 catches for 303 yards on 33 targets. Wilson's production was buoyed by the absence of Cardinals WR1 Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel), who missed those games after undergoing an appendectomy. Harrison Jr. returned to the field in Week 13, and Wilson recorded just three catches for 36 yards on seven targets. However, Harrison Jr. has yet to practice this week heading into the team's Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams due to a heel injury.
If Harrison Jr. goes back on the shelf, Wilson could re-emerge as Arizona's lead wide receiver. The Cardinals are averaging 48.6 pass attempts per game over the last three weeks, so Wilson could be a good bet to see double-digit targets and profiles as a must-start fantasy wide receiver for as long as Harrison Jr. is sidelined.
Chris Godwin Jr., WR, Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. (leg) is getting healthier following a fractured fibula that he suffered back in Week 5. Godwin returned from his fibula injury in the Week 12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams to catch two of his four targets for just nine yards. The 29-year-old saw the field more in last week's win over the Arizona Cardinals and caught three of five targets for a season-high 78 yards.
He was still limited with his leg injury in Wednesday's practice, but he upgraded to a full practice on Thursday and should continue to see his role grow as he heads into the Week 14 divisional game against the New Orleans Saints. Godwin has WR3/flex appeal for fantasy managers in his third game back, although his target share could be negatively affected if Mike Evans (collarbone) comes off IR to play for the first time since breaking his collarbone in Week 7.
John Metchie III, WR, Jets
New York Jets wide receiver John Metchie III may have been a disappointment for fantasy in Week 13, but he's still trending positively with the team's offensive attack finally gaining some traction in the campaign. The 25-year-old continued his heavy utilization in New York's 27-24 home win over the Atlanta Falcons, nabbing 4-of-8 passes for 19 yards.
It isn't what managers expected, particularly after Metchie III strung together two double-digit fantasy-point outings. Even with the down game, though, the usage was there, and veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been a decent boost for the Jets' offense, making the former Houston Texan a decent prospective waiver claim. Teammate Garrett Wilson (knee) may return in two weeks, but Metchie III looks to be carving out a solid role with his new team. He'll get the Dolphins at home in Week 14.
