Will Stein, Brian Hartline the Top Candidates for Kentucky Job?
Kentucky officially announced the firing of its 13-year head coach, Mark Stoops, on Monday, beginning a head-coaching search in Lexington for the first time since 2013. According to On3Sports, two names to know who are potential Kentucky targets are Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline and Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein. Outside of his playing career, the 39-year-old Hartline is well recognized for his work as the wide receivers coach for Ohio State from 2018. Hartline helped develop star wideouts Terry McLaurin, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Jeremiah Smith, among others. Stein has served as the Ducks' offensive coordinator since 2023, following a three-year stint with UCLA. He's credited with coaching quarterbacks Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel, and Dante Moore, along with several NFL skill players like Bucky Irving and Troy Franklin. Based on this early intel, it's clear Kentucky is searching for a young, talented, offensive-minded coach to replace the defensive-minded Stoops.
