Week 9 Wide Receiver Rankings Outlooks

Ricky Pearsall, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) will be reevaluated on Wednesday and thereafter monitored day-to-day, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Pearsall suffered a PCL injury in Week 4 and has not appeared in a game since. Pearsall thrived in the absence of Brandon Aiyuk (knee), George Kittle (hamstring), Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs, shoulder), catching 30 passes for 327 yards in his four games.

With Jennings and Kittle back in action and Aiyuk potentially returning to practice this week, one wonders how the 49ers' target shares will look upon Pearsall's eventual return. If Pearsall can get back to game shape in time for Week 9, he would benefit from a meeting against the Giants, who have given up the most receiving yards and second-most receptions to opposing wide receivers.

Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad) left Monday night's game against the Chiefs in the second half after reaggravating the quad injury that sidelined him for four weeks. McLaurin spoke postgame and said that his quad is "alright," but will take things day by day for now, according to Tashad Reed of the Washington Post. The 30-year-old wideout made a big impact in his return to the field, catching three of his four targets for 54 yards and Washington's only touchdown of the night.

He also made another spectacular diving catch near the sideline late in the third quarter and somehow had the body control to stay in bounds. However, he did not return after that play. His status will be updated in the coming days, and hopefully, he's able to suit up on a short week for Sunday Night Football in Week 9 against the Seahawks. If he's unable to play again, Deebo Samuel Sr. would again take on a heavy target share with Chris MooreLuke McCaffrey, and Jaylin Lane chipping in.

Troy Franklin, Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin is beginning to build more chemistry with quarterback Bo Nix. Over the last two games, Franklin has seen 18 targets and hauled in nine receptions for 100-plus yards with three touchdowns. The 22-year-old posted a few decent games early in the season, but has really come alive as of late. The two-score effort on Sunday will make Franklin the top waiver priority in plenty of fantasy formats. The six-catch contest in Week 8 was the most for Franklin since Week 2. He has shown an ability to make plays and figures to be a viable flex option going forward.

Tre' Harris, Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Tre' Harris took advantage of his two targets Thursday night, catching both for a total of eight yards and his first career touchdown during the team's 37-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The second-round draft pick out of Ole Miss played additional snaps late in the game with the Bolts leading by two touchdowns, finishing a lengthy 17-play drive with his touchdown. Harris remains buried on the depth chart, with only a 33% route rate and a 13% target share so far this year.

With rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden emerging as another key target, Harris will probably need an injury to a player ahead of him to secure a significant role. He's more of a stash for dynasty leagues than a redraft pickup, especially heading into Week 9 against a struggling Tennessee Titans defense.

Cedric Tillman, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday that wide receiver Cedric Tillman (hamstring) is expected to return in Week 10 against the New York Jets after the team's Week 9 bye, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. Tillman is eligible to have his 21-day practice window opened this week. Whether the 25-year-old actually returns in Week 10 will depend on how he looks once he gets back on the practice field.

Before suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4, Tillman caught 11 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 20 targets, but that was also when veteran quarterback Joe Flacco was still starting for the team. With rookie Dillon Gabriel now starting under center and mostly struggling, Tillman isn't going to be as intriguing as a WR4/flex in fantasy football lineups.
