Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Christian Kirk, WR, Houston Texans
Houston Texans wide receivers Christian Kirk (hamstring) and Braxton Berrios (hamstring) were both limited in practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday, according to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle.
Kirk and Berrios both missed the first two weeks of the season with their hamstring injuries, but they are both expected to make their season debuts this Sunday against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. The 28-year-old Kirk is expected to operate as Houston's starting slot receiver when he's healthy, although he'll make for a pretty risky flex option for fantasy managers if he makes his team debut this weekend.
Kirk's return will take a lot of attention away from stud WR1 Nico Collins, though, for a Texans offense that has not impressed early on. Rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel will have a harder time contributing with Kirk in the fold.
Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is the clear star of Atlanta's backfield, but Tyler Allgeier is also a big part of the team's ground game, as evidenced in the 22-6 Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
Robinson went off for 22 carries and 143 rushing yards while also catching three passes for 25 yards, but Allgeier wasn't far behind with 16 rushing attempts for 76 yards and a touchdown. He also caught his only target for a four-yard pickup through the air. Allgeier won't always be this heavily involved, but the Falcons leaned on their ground attack in a game that they never trailed.
Twelve of Allgeier's 17 carries came in the second half, and his touchdown plunge sealed the game in the fourth quarter. The 25-year-old will be in play as a flex in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers and deserves to be rostered in more than 30% of Yahoo leagues.
Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert looked sharp in Monday night's 20-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He completed 19-of-27 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 31 rushing yards on nine carries.
Herbert again appeared poised and confident, demonstrating good pocket awareness and using his legs when necessary. In Week 3, he faces a tough Denver Broncos defense. Denver has elite talent, but they just allowed 29 points to the Indianapolis Colts.
Herbert and OC Greg Roman should find ways to exploit weaknesses even in a challenging matchup. Fantasy managers shouldn't hesitate, as he remains a safe top-10 QB option.
Kayshon Boutte, WR, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte converted his only target into a 16-yard touchdown reception during Sunday's Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins. There was a lot of hype surrounding Boutte after he was named a starter in the season opener and caught six passes for 103 yards while playing 82 percent of the offensive snaps.
However, his usage and productivity took a step back this past weekend as he was not a starter and his snap share dropped to 72 percent. Plus, while Boutte did salvage his fantasy performance with a touchdown, it was concerning to see him drop so low in the pecking order with just one target.
At this point, Stefon Diggs has been the only Patriots receiver with similar stat lines between Week 1 and Week 2. Boutte has a low floor and moderately high ceiling, ranking as a high-end fantasy WR4 against the Steelers in Week 3.
RJ Harvey, RB, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said that rookie running back RJ Harvey "got confused with some of the terminology" and blocked on a play where he was supposed to get the ball, per Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports. For what it's worth, Stevens also relayed that Lombardi said the mistake was "not a recurring issue."
Harvey has not seen a ton of involvement in the Denver offense through the first two games of his career, recording just 13 total touches so far. He's clearly behind veteran running back J.K. Dobbins, and Harvey may even be in an RB2 timeshare with Tyler Badie.
Harvey should be stashed in a bench spot in all league formats for his upside, but he should not be counted on for consistent fantasy production in the short term.
Calvin Austin III, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III was not as productive this past Sunday as he was in Week 1's win over the Jets. However, he was Pittsburgh's leading snap-getter amongst the team's wideouts.
Austin III reeled in just 1-of-4 targets for 22 yards in their 31-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but participated on one more snap than running mate DKMetcalf. Metcalf still paced the team in targets as he did the week prior, but Pittsburgh is throwing it a ton, so there's enough to go around for at least one more pass-catcher.
Calvin Austin III remains a boom-bust option out wide for now, although he's more intriguing in 2025 than in seasons past. If quarterback Aaron Rodgers can exhibit some consistency, he'll be more useful for fantasy than not.
