Champions League Fantasy: Best Matchday 1 Tips
Target Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Sporting CP Assets
The 2024-25 Bundesliga champions have made a strong start this season, scoring 14 goals and conceding only two. Vincent Kompany seems to have found his winning strategy around Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, and Serge Gnabry, who have combined for 13 goals among themselves.

Their next opponents, Chelsea, are in excellent form and are yet to lose a Premier League game; however, they face an uphill battle to defeat Bayern at the Allianz Arena. The Blues will be hoping to pull off an upset, as they did in the 2011-12 UCL final against the German side.
Speaking of in-form teams, Juventus is another side that has secured nine points in three games in the Italian Serie A. One player who has been the most influential for the Bianconeri is Kenan Yildiz, as he tops the charts for most chances created (11) and made four attacking returns for Juve.
Priced at €6.5m, Kenan Yildiz is a no-brainer pick and could be a massive differential option for Matchday 1.

Sporting CP, the 2024-25 Liga Portugal champions, are back in the Champions League! The Lions have scored the most goals in their league (15), had the most expected goals (11.7 xG), and created the most big chances (22).
Facing new UCL debutant, Kairat Almaty, Sporting CP will be relying on its domestic league form to take home all three points this Thursday. To this end, UCL fantasy managers should prioritize selecting assets from FC Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Sporting CP for Matchday 1.

According to market data goal projections, each club is expected to produce 2.12 xG, 1.62 xG, and 3.27 xG (expected goals) against their opponents this weekend. In defense, Sporting CP is favored with a 66% likelihood of keeping a clean sheet, implying we could consider a possible double-up on their defense.
Recommended assets for Matchday 1
- FC Bayern Munich: Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise
- Juventus: Kenan Yildiz, Dusan Vlahovic, and Lloyd Kelly
- Sporting CP: Luis Suarez, Pedro Goncalves, and Ricardo Mangas
Matchday 1 Top Captain Picks
The midweek fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Kenan Yildiz against Borussia Dortmund, Bradley Barcola against Atalanta B.C., and Erling Haaland against SSC Napoli all present strong cases. However, our top three captain picks across Matchday 1 are:
Kylian Mbappé (€10.5m) - Real Madrid vs. Olympique de Marseille
Real Madrid's talisman tops the poll for captaincy picks this week. The 26-year-old is on solid form for the Galacticos and has made five attacking returns (four goals, one assist) in the opening four La Liga games.
Mbappé boasts a goal record of 55 goals scored in the Champions League, and on Tuesday, Real Madrid, the 15-time UCL champion, will rely on their star player to help them secure a crucial win against Marseille.

Harry Kane (€10.5m) - FC Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea
With eight attacking returns (five goals, three assists) in the Bundesliga this season, the 32-year-old has been in outstanding form for Bayern Munich.
Kane proved himself as clearly a world-class talent over the weekend, having scored against all 20 teams he has faced in the league. This Wednesday, the Englishman, who has an impressive eight goals against Chelsea, will try to build on his current success.

Raphinha (€9.5m) - FC Barcelona away at Newcastle
Raphinha, the joint top scorer in the Champions League from the previous season, is back on the captaincy polls this week. The Brazilian international scored 13 goals, delivered clutch moments, and helped the Culers through to the 2024-25 semi-finals.
He will be a crucial player for Barcelona when they take on Newcastle away from home, who have been extremely challenging to defeat at St. James' Park.

Matchday 1 Top Differential Captain (<10% ownership)
Pedro Goncalves (€6.0m) - Sporting CP vs. FC Kairat Almaty
Pedro Goncalves, who dominates Portugal's statistics table, has played a significant role in Sporting CP's incredible start to the season. He has scored four goals and recorded three assists this season, making him a vital player for the Lions.
Goncalves, with only 3% ownership, is a solid differential to consider, as he is on set-piece duty and will most likely contribute to the goals scored against Kairat Almaty on Thursday.
