Fantasy Football Quarterback Outlooks

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will begin his sixth season in the National Football League. Although expectations have been high for the former LSU Tiger since entering the NFL in 2020 as the No. 1 overall pick, they will be even higher heading into the 2025-26 campaign. Burrow is coming off an MVP-caliber year, finishing with 4,918 passing yards, 43 touchdowns, and 460 completions, the best marks at the position, and he did all that despite being sacked 48 times.

Unfortunately, the offensive line is still projected to be one of the worst, which isn't good news, especially for a signal-caller burdened by various injuries over the years. On a positive note, the front office has at least been mindful about bolstering things on the defensive side of the ball, potentially taking some pressure off Burrow. Of course, there are some who don't believe he can remain as productive. But fantasy managers have reason to believe he'll remain as potent in 2025-26, considering Ja'Marr ChaseTee Higgins, and Mike Gesicki received new contracts.

In addition, Chase Brown easily had the best season of his career. With that in mind, Burrow will need the offensive line to at least keep him from taking the kind of hits that could result in another injury. If that happens and Burrow can stay healthy (along with the rest of the offense), he certainly has all the tools needed to finish the season as the top fantasy quarterback while earning a Most Valuable Player award in the process.

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2024 was the year of all years for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield. He set career highs in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion percentage, and quarterback rating. Mayfield would finish 2024 as the overall QB4. It was nice to see him finally meet expectations as a former number one overall pick. As we turn the page to 2025, we must acknowledge that Mayfield played at a level we had never seen from him before in 2024. His 41 touchdown passes tied for second in the league, and his 7.2% touchdown rate blew past his career mark of 5.0%.

As much fun as it was seeing Mayfield hit his ceiling, he is a major regression candidate for 2025. Due to his monster 2024, Mayfield is one of the first quarterbacks coming off draft boards. He has an average NFFC ADP of 48.68 overall. That feels steep for a player who is likely to regress to his career means across the board. Mayfield is certainly a better real-life quarterback than many fantasy gamers thought, but he's a fade at his current price in drafts.

Justin Fields, New York Jets

Justin Fields began the 2024 season as the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback. Despite having a 4-2 record to open the season, Pittsburgh opted to bench Fields in favor of veteran Russell Wilson. Not surprisingly, Fields spurned Pittsburgh in free agency and opted to sign a two-year, $40 million deal with the New York Jets. Whether he is the team's long-term quarterback solution is very much up in the air. For now, Fields is set to begin the 2025 season as New York's QB1. He showed last year that he still carries plenty of upside for fantasy football purposes.

Fields averaged 19.5 fantasy points per game in his six starts and finished as a QB1 three times during that span. This was in large part due to his ability as a rusher. The new Jets regime has made it clear they want to fully incorporate Fields' legs into its offense. One thing working against Fields is that it's unclear how long a leash he'll have if the team starts losing games. One thing is for certain. As long as Fields is starting, he's a viable fantasy football QB1. With an NFFC average ADP of 118.76 overall, Fields is an ideal target for gamers who wait to draft a quarterback.

- Dave Ventresca

Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy saw his statistical contributions decline substantially last season. He appeared in 15 contests, completing 65.9% of his passes for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The 49ers struggled to keep guys on the field, with Christian McCaffrey (knee), Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Deebo Samuel Sr., and George Kittle all missing time. Still, Purdy at least did enough to land a hefty five-year, $265 million contract extension.

With a new deal, he will do his best to spearhead an offense that no longer has Samuel, who was traded to the Washington Commanders. Aiyuk is also returning from a torn ACL and MCL sustained during the Week 7 clash with the Kansas City Chiefs. Of course, there are doubts about whether McCaffrey can stay healthy. Purdy comes in as QB10 in the latest RotoBaller rankings. He did improve regarding his efforts as a runner last season, amassing 323 yards and five touchdowns off 66 carries.

However, outside of that, fantasy managers have major concerns about Purdy's potential in other statistical areas. Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall will need to step it up. McCaffrey must also remain off the injury report. If those things happen, along with an earlier return by Aiyuk, the signal-caller should play as well as he did in 2024, at the very least. On the other hand, fantasy managers may feel more comfortable taking a quarterback who doesn't have as many red flags, such as Jared GoffCaleb Williams, or Kyler Murray, who ranked a few spots below him.

- Dennis Clausen

Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans

Cam Ward was the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. Ward was stellar in his final collegiate season with Miami, completing 67.2 percent of his passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

Over the last three seasons, Ward has averaged over 3,700 yards and 29 touchdowns per season while averaging 7.9 yards per attempt. He will be the day-one starter for a Tennessee offense that has plenty of solid pieces but lacks a stable quarterback in 2024.

The Titans improved their offensive line through free agency this offseason (left tackle Dan Moore Jr. and right guard Kevin Zeitler) and returned Calvin RidleyTony PollardTyjae Spears, and Chig Okonkwo to the passing attack. Tennessee also added veteran receivers (Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson) and rookie talent (Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor) to upgrade the passing attack.

Ward is entering a decent overall situation that was made to look worse by subpar quarterback play in 2024. However, his current ADP in best ball drafts (QB26) doesn’t build in the chance that Ward can thrive with decent weapons, a good offensive line, and a division that could force shootout conditions.

The rookie quarterback should have no problem beating his modest ADP even if he has a mediocre season. There is a chance that he is a smash if the Titans' offense can take a step with a good signal caller under center.
