Jack Flaherty turned in a solid start in the second game of a Wednesday doubleheader against the Washington Nationals. In the 9-4 loss, Flaherty allowed three runs on five hits over five innings of work while walking two and striking out nine. He escaped with a no-decision while notching 16 swinging strikes in the outing. The veteran had a brutal June, posting a 6.84 ERA in the month, so his first July effort was definitely a step in the right direction.
