Marcelo Mayer Collects First Two Big-League Hits
Marcelo Mayer picked up the first two hits of his major league career in a 5-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. He started at third base and batted sixth, went 2-for-4 with a single and a double in the contest. The highly touted 22-year-old is 2-for-8 through his first two big league games. He should continue to receive plenty of opportunities with injured third baseman Alex Bregman (quad) on the shelf for the foreseeable future. Mayer and the Red Sox will go on the road to face Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Chad Patrick on Monday.
