Pittsburgh Pirates' top prospect, Bubba Chandler, has been one of the best pitchers down in Triple-A this season. Chandler has a 2.17 ERA and 56 strikeouts in his first nine starts at Triple-A Indianapolis this season. 

Given how well he has pitched, his time in the big leagues should be coming very soon. He has dominated at Triple-A over the past two seasons, and not many hitters have been able to touch his electric fastball in 2025. 

So, when are the Pirates going to call up Chandler? Can we expect him to make his debut in May? Let's dive in and find out. 

Bubba Chandler Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

It has surely taken Chandler some time to reach his full potential. He had a 4.15 ERA in eight games (six starts) at Single-A in 2022 before struggling a bit during his 2023 campaign. The right-hander finished his second minor league season with a 4.54 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 25 starts between High-A and Double-A. 

However, Chandler enjoyed a breakout campaign last season. He had a combined 3.08 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 119 2/3 innings pitched. More importantly, MLB Pipeline's No. 2 overall prospect was untouchable in his first taste of Triple-A ball. In his first seven starts for Triple-A Indianapolis in 2024, he held opposing hitters to a .183 batting average to go with an impressive 1.83 ERA.

Therefore, it's not shocking to see Chandler pick up where he left off last year. The right-hander has allowed one run or fewer in six of his nine starts at Triple-A in 2025, and his 56 strikeouts currently rank eighth in the minors. 

Bubba Chandler Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

Chandler has dealt with some command issues in recent outings, walking at least two batters in three straight starts. Nevertheless, it's hard to ignore his potential. He has an elite fastball that reaches triple digits, and it's only a matter of time until the Pirates call up their top prospect.

There's a strong chance that Chandler will be promoted within the next few weeks. He doesn't have much left to prove down in Triple-A, and it was just last year that Pittsburgh called up Paul Skenes in May. So, it's fair to assume that the 22-year-old could debut sometime in June. 

That makes him a must-stash in all fantasy leagues right now. There's a reason why he is the top pitching prospect in baseball. He has three above-average pitches that he consistently throws for strikes (fastball, slider, changeup), and Chandler should eventually replace Carmen Mlodzinski in Pittsburgh's rotation. Mlodzinski has a 5.67 ERA in nine starts this season.
