Should I stash Max Meyer In redraft leagues? When will Meyer get called up by Miami again? What is Meyer's fantasy potential?
As we head into the All-Star Break, the Miami Marlins still sit near the bottom of the MLB standings with the second-fewest wins in all of baseball.
Miami's rotation has been wrecked by injuries, leaving Edward Cabrera and Trevor Rogers as the only remaining starters left from the Opening Day rotation - and Cabrera missed nearly two months of action earlier this year.
Many thought we would see Miami's top pitching prospect back up by now, but Max Meyer has not made his return to the big leagues yet after making three starts for Miami earlier this season.
How High Is Max Meyer's Fantasy Potential?
Meyer's potential is massive in the long run, even if he's only going to have a chance to be minimally impactful on redraft leagues this season. The former first-round pick has had success at every level of the minors and in a small sample size (three starts) at the major league level earlier this season.
I understand that Miami has nothing to play for and that they're nursing Meyer along after Tommy John surgery, but at some point, you would think they want to see what they have with Meyer and just how high his ceiling could be.
Meyer owns a 2.12 ERA and 0.82 WHIP this season with 14 strikeouts in 17 major league innings. He's rostered in just 23% of Yahoo! leagues mainly because many managers have grown tired of waiting for him to get called back up. If we had any confirmation that his return to Miami was close, he'd likely be closer to 50% rostered as managers know just how valuable of an asset he could be down the stretch.
When Might Max Meyer Get A Major-League Opportunity?
It won't be before the break, as Meyer just pitched a few days ago and Miami only needs three more starts in the first half. But there are more than a few reasons to think that Meyer's call-up is coming soon (and I am well aware that we have said that before).
Meyer's last two starts at Triple-A Jacksonville have been very good, and he was even stretched out to six full innings on Tuesday (72 pitches).
A beautiful sight 👁️👁️
As Max Meyer nears his return to the majors, he pitched into the 6th(!) inning for the first time since going down to Triple-A.

In those two most recent starts, he's thrown 10.2 innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out ten hitters. He seems to be rounding into form and ready for the call - whenever that may come. I wouldn't hesitate to stash him in all but the shallowest of formats, he could be a real difference-maker who ends up being worth the wait.
