New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield has undergone season-ending surgery due to a suspected lower-body injury, although the exact nature of the surgery has not been disclosed. Mayfield hasn't appeared in a game since Feb. 22 against the St. Louis Blues and has previously missed a combined 15 games due to lower and upper-body injuries earlier in the season. The defensive-minded 31-year-old has posted five assists without a goal on 36 shots across 41 games on the season, adding 70 hits and 106 blocked shots in that time. He is expected to be ready for the 2024-25 season.--Brenton Kemp
