Kevin Harvick had a legitimate chance to win the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday evening, but an ill-timed caution and subsequent pit road penalty ruined Harvick's chances at locking himself into the Round of 12 in the Cup Series Playoffs. Late in the race when he was heading toward pit road to make a pit stop, the caution came out and Harvick was assessed a commitment line violation, which forced him to start at the rear of the field on the restart. Harvick's No. 4 Ford was fast, though, ranking 3rd-fastest in Green Flag Speed during that race. The most unfortunate part about it all, though, is that a win would have locked Harvick into the next round of the Playoffs, but he is now still below the cut line (by two points) with two races remaining in the Round of 16.--Jordan McAbee
