Brandon Pfaadt Will Start On Thursday

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Pfaadt is scheduled to be called up from the minors to start the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. The club's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was roughed up to the tune of 22 runs on 31 hits in 23 2/3 innings in his first five MLB starts earlier this year. The matchup is about as bad as it gets, too, so we're not recommending Pfaadt in DFS, but he's most certainly worth a pickup in mixed leagues with him taking Merrill Kelly's (calf) spot in the starting rotation. Since he went back to the farm, the 24-year-old has a 3.16 ERA with 28 strikeouts and five walks in five starts for Triple-A Reno. Pfaadt is currently rostered in just 6% of Yahoo leagues.
