Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier (hip, knee) is listed as questionable to play in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins after being limited in practice during the week. It appears to be a new injury for Allgeier, as he was not listed on the injury report last week.
The 25-year-old has been an impactful player for the Atlanta offense in a backup role behind superstar Bijan Robinson, handling 57 carries for 203 yards and three touchdowns on the season. The Falcons' offense could look a tad different on Sunday against the Dolphins with veteran Kirk Cousins expected to start in place of Michael Penix Jr. (knee), who has been managing a bone bruise this week.
Allgeier has gotten a good amount of his production when the Falcons look to salt the game away late, setting him up for a potential big day against a porous Miami run defense. Allgeir is right on the RB2/flex line for Week 8, ranked as the RB27 in PPR formats by RotoBaller.
Elic Ayomanor, WR, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Elic Ayomanor will once again be asked to step up with this offense shorthanded this weekend. Top wide receiver Calvin Ridley (hamstring) has been ruled out and will miss his second straight game.
Last week, Ayomanor struggled as he hauled in two of his five targets for 29 yards in the loss to the New England Patriots. The rookie wideout has failed to surpass 30 receiving yards in each of the last three games.
The playing time will be there, but nothing seems to be going right for this Titans offense at the moment. Ayomanor might be able to offer flex value in PPR formats for the Week 8 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Jayden Higgins, WR, Houston Texans
Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins has a huge opportunity in front of him in Week 8, as his team hosts the 49ers on Sunday afternoon. The Texans won't have Nico Collins (concussion) or Christian Kirk (hamstring), so Higgins should step up into one of the primary wide receiver roles for C.J. Stroud.
The second-round pick has struggled to get much going this season, with only nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown in his six games. He didn't have any catches on Monday Night Football in Seattle, coming up empty for the first time this season. Higgins did play a season-high 48 snaps in that contest, and he should get more work and more targets this week.
The chances will be there, but it remains to be seen if he'll rise to the challenge. He is the No. 52 WR this week in RotoBaller's rankings, and he's extremely high risk even though the potential for a breakout is definitely present.
Josh Reynolds, WR, New York Jets
Barring health, New York Jets wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hip) is slated to operate as the team's No. 1 wideout in this Sunday's road clash with the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran led New York in targets in last weekend's 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers, and will have a chance to do so again with teammate Garrett Wilson (knee) deemed inactive for a second straight contest.
Unfortunately for Reynolds, he was a late-week addition to the injury report with a hip ailment, subsequently missing Friday's practice. Due to the timing of the injury, it's possible that the 30-year-old, who is listed as questionable, doesn't suit up himself.
In that instance, rookie Arian Smith figures to lead New York's WR corps in snaps, with Allen Lazard and Tyler Johnson vying for playing time behind him. If Reynolds plays, he'll rank as RotoBaller's PPR WR57 for Week 8.
Jalen Coker, WR, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker will play in just his second game this season after returning from a quad injury last week. In his last game, he was targeted twice but had no receptions. Fantasy players will have to wait and see if he gets more involved in the offense in Week 8 against Buffalo.
Coker was considered to be a potential sleeper in the preseason, and the door is still open for him to become a quality contributor for Carolina. Either Coker or Xavier Legette can potentially emerge as a reliable complement to Tetairoa McMillan.
Do not start the second-year receiver this week against Buffalo, as it's better to monitor his performance. Coker showed promise last year with 14.9 yards per reception, so fantasy leaguers who are patient with him might eventually be rewarded. For now, make room for him on your bench.
