Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 17:
DJ Moore, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore has been on a tear over the previous few weeks and is poised to retain an elevated role in the offense amid injuries to his teammates. Moore felt like an afterthought in Chicago's attack early in the campaign. Through the first nine games of the year, the University of Maryland alum had recorded just one touchdown and three double-digit fantasy performances.
However, he's been more involved over the last month or so, particularly with fellow wideout Rome Odunze (foot) battling a nagging foot issue. While it's unclear if Odunze will miss a fourth straight outing, he's yet to practice in any capacity since Week 15. If one or both are inactive, fantasy managers can rely on Moore as a solid WR2 with upside against a vulnerable San Francisco 49ers defense on Sunday Night Football.
Luther Burden III, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III (ankle) was a full practice participant on Friday and carries no injury designation into the team's Sunday Night matchup with the 49ers. Burden injured his ankle in a Week 15 blowout of the Browns, in which he had seen his highest target share of the season, and was forced to miss Chicago's Week 16 divisional win over the Packers.
In his last two games played without Rome Odunze (foot), who was ruled out on Friday for what will be his fourth consecutive game, Burden has caught 10 of 13 targets for 151 yards and a touchdown. He projects as RotoBaller's WR37 for the week and should be viewed as a high-upside flex play against a 49ers defense that has allowed nearly 230 passing yards per game and 27 touchdowns through the air.
Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco starting quarterback Brock Purdy tore up the Indianapolis Colts' defense on Monday Night Football to put a bow on Week 16, and now enters Week 17 ranking as a mid-tier QB1 in the final weekend for some fantasy managers in the fantasy playoffs. Week 16 was his best game of the season; he dominated in primetime, finishing with five touchdown passes and 295 yards, finishing as the QB1 in fantasy for the week.
His rapport with all pass catchers, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle (ankle), and Jauan Jennings, was all on display. He even hit Demarcus Robinson on a touchdown pass as well. Since his return from the toe injury in Week 11, Purdy has scored 17 or more fantasy points in four of his last five starts and has finished as the QB10 or better in three of those five. With another decent matchup on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, Purdy should be fired up into starting lineups confidently as we look forward to Week 17.
George Kittle, TE, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (ankle) missed each of the team's practices this week and is officially questionable for the team's clash with the Bears in Week 17. Kittle is expected to be a game-time decision, and with the teams being showcased on Sunday Night Football, fantasy managers will be left with few other options should he be declared inactive. The timing couldn't be worse for managers who rode Kittle, who has averaged 20 PPR points per game since Week 10, to the fantasy championship round.
Managers hoping to see Kittle take the field need to take out an insurance policy. Backup Jake Tonges connected with quarterback Brock Purdy for a go-ahead touchdown in Week 1, and he logged a 22-209-2 line during Kittle's five-week stint on injured reserve earlier this season. On the other side of the ball, Colston Loveland is another low-owned option worthy of consideration.
Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has scored a touchdown in four straight games and has visited the end zone in six of the team's last seven contests. While the scoring binge has made him a valuable fantasy asset, he has been lacking in yardage. Jennings has hit a high of 71 yards (twice) since Week 9 but has otherwise averaged a mere 42.4 yards per game. Jennings has a good chance of extending his touchdown streak and improving his overall production in a Week 17 matchup against the Bears.
Chicago has allowed the second-most touchdowns to opposing wide receivers and the tenth-most receiving yards to the position this season. With George Kittle (ankle) a game-time decision and Ricky Pearsall (knee, ankle) questionable, Jennings may see more involvement in San Francisco's passing attack than usual. He is a borderline WR1/WR2 and can be plugged into starting lineups for the final week of the fantasy football season.
