Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 16:
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers rookie first-round wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (ankle, foot) is back at practice on Thursday, according to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer. A pair of injuries kept McMillan out of the first practice of the week on Wednesday, but a return on Thursday puts him on track to be available for a Week 16 clash with the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 22-year-old may have been injured in Sunday's upset loss to the New Orleans Saints, as he had the worst game of his young NFL career with only two catches for 25 yards on four targets.
Fantasy managers will be hoping for a bounce-back performance this weekend against Tampa if he's active. Before McMillan's Week 15 dud, he had scored four touchdowns in the previous three games. If active this weekend, McMillan profiles as a high-end WR2 for fantasy managers.
Brian Thomas Jr., WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Though this has been an undoubtedly frustrating season for Brian Thomas Jr., the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver is coming off back-to-back solid performances as his team has ascended to the top of the AFC South. The second-year player, ranked as the No. 44 overall PPR receiver, is certainly in the conversation for the biggest fantasy disappointment of the season relative to draft position.
However, managers who weathered modest outputs and an injury may have a light at the end of the tunnel, as Thomas has looked more like his rookie self with 13 targets, 7 catches, 153 yards, and a touchdown during the past two weeks. The Jags have a tough Week 16 matchup against a Denver Broncos defense that ranks ninth against PPR receivers, but Jacksonville and quarterback Trevor Lawrence are on such a hot streak that Thomas should carry WR3/flex consideration for managers deep in the playoffs.
Justin Jefferson, WR, Minnesota Vikings
For the second straight week, the Minnesota Vikings put together an excellent offensive day with modest output from wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who was held to only two catches in his team's 34-26 victory against the Dallas Cowboys. The Vikings targeted Jefferson a team-high eight times, but the result was two catches for 22 yards.
It was a hard-luck night for Jefferson, who caught a touchdown from quarterback J.J. McCarthy that was negated by an illegal formation penalty in the first half, missed out on a would-have-been big play when McCarthy overthrew him in the fourth quarter, and then dropped a touchdown later on the same drive. Managers who survived into Week 16 will see Jefferson in a favorable setting against the New York Giants, yet with just six catches in the past three games, it's getting more and more difficult to trust Minnesota's offense to get Jefferson the ball.
