Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting for Week 12 TNF:
Davis Mills, QB, Houston Texans
With starting quarterback C.J. Stroud (concussion) battling a concussion, Houston Texans backup QB Davis Mills has been pressed into action over the past two weeks. Stroud was listed as a non-participant on Monday's injury report ahead of Houston's Week 12 Thursday night matchup against the Buffalo Bills, which means Mills could be in line to make his third straight start against Buffalo.
Mills has performed admirably in his two starts to this point, completing 61.6% of his pass attempts for 566 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while leading Houston to two wins. Perhaps most importantly, he is averaging 43 pass attempts per game, which gives him plenty of chances to put up fantasy production.
Davis Mills has limited scoring upside, but he could be a low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in two-quarterback formats leading into Week 12.
Woody Marks, RB, Houston Texans
Houston Texans running back Woody Marks played 66% of snaps in Sunday's win over the Titans, compared to just 26% for Nick Chubb. The rookie seems to be taking over as the team's lead option in the backfield, but this week, he only managed 44 rushing yards on his 18 carries while adding a seven-yard reception on his only target.
He remains a dual-threat running back with a high ceiling for the Texans, who come home to face the Bills on a short week this Thursday night. They'll need to be much more effective on offense if they want to keep up with the high-scoring Buffalo offense after managing just 16 points and one offensive touchdown against the Titans.
Woody Marks should be a key to finding more success, but he'll remain a "boom-or-bust" play even in his favorable Week 12 matchup versus the Buffalo Bills.
Khalil Shakir, WR, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir was not on the field on Tuesday for the portion of practice open to the media due to personal reasons, according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. Shakir was also listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated report due to a personal reason.
The team's WR1 isn't dealing with an injury, but his situation bears watching going into Thursday's tilt against the Houston Texans. The 25-year-old was listed with ankle and rib injuries last week but ended up suiting up for Sunday's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, he caught just one of three targets for minus-three yards in a 44-32 win. It was the worst game of Shakir's career, which was especially concerning due to the fact that quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills' offense moved the ball at will against Tampa. It doesn't make Shakir an enticing fantasy play this week against the top defense in the NFL.
Dawson Knox, TE, Buffalo Bills
Even with Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid (hamstring) sidelined in Week 11, Bills TE2 Dawson Knox had a modest outing, recording one catch for 23 yards on three targets against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kincaid did not practice on either Monday or Tuesday heading into Buffalo's Week 12 matchup against the Houston Texans on Thursday night, so Knox could have another chance to be his team's lead tight end.
Still, in the two games he's played this season without Kincaid, Knox has recorded two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown on five targets. Expectations for Knox should be limited, but the 29-year-old does have a better chance to find the end zone without Kincaid in the lineup.
In the deepest fantasy leagues, Knox could be a low-end streaming option for managers to add off the waiver wire heading into Week 12.
Dalton Schultz, TE, Houston Texans
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz (shoulder) continues to manage a shoulder injury, but he should be active on Thursday night in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills after upgrading to a full practice on Tuesday. Schultz was listed as limited on the team's Monday practice estimation.
The 29-year-old's shoulder injury has not slowed him down on the field on game days, as he has a nice three-game stretch consisting of 19 catches, 181 yards, and a touchdown on 28 targets. He has had at least eight targets during that span and has seen at least eight targets in four of the last five games.
The last two weeks with starting quarterback C.J. Stroud (concussion) sidelined, Schultz has been a nice safety blanket for Davis Mills, catching 13 of 20 targets for 104 yards and his first touchdown of the year. Schultz is trending up going into Thursday's tilt while being on the TE1/2 borderline in fantasy.
