Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 7:
Calvin Ridley, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley (hamstring) was ruled out early from Sunday's Week 6 contest against the Las Vegas Raiders. Ridley exited in the second quarter with a hamstring issue and was held out for the rest of the game as a precaution. He finished this game hauling in his lone target for 18 yards. The loss of Ridley should mean increased roles for Elic Ayomanor, Tyler Lockett, and Van Jefferson. Fantasy managers should check back for more updates on Ridley's status. Sadly, hamstring issues have a tendency to linger, so Ridley could be looking at a multiple-game absence.
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday that the team didn't have an update yet on tight end David Njoku (knee) after he injured his knee in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. Before leaving early on Sunday, Njoku had three catches on six targets for 28 yards. With no update on Njoku's condition, fantasy managers should consider him questionable for a Week 7 tilt against the Miami Dolphins right now.
If Njoku is out or limited for the upcoming game against Miami, rookie Harold Fannin Jr. would have clear TE1 upside in a plus matchup. Blake Whiteheart would also likely see the field more as Fanning's backup. Njoku is still involved in Cleveland's passing attack, but the emergence of Fannin has capped his fantasy upside as a TE1 option. Through six weeks, Njoku has a 23-223-1 line on 36 targets.
Justin Fields, New York Jets
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said during a Monday press conference that he never considered benching quarterback Justin Fields despite Fields' struggles in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. Cimini reports that Glenn "reiterated commitment to Justin Fields, but acknowledged that he took a step back" on Sunday. The 26-year-old completed nine of 17 pass attempts for 45 yards and was sacked nine times for a combined loss of 55 yards in Week 6 against Denver.
Fields has thrown for 799 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 235 yards and three touchdowns in five games so far this season. If Fields were to get benched, veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor would likely take over under center for the Jets. However, it appears the team is not considering making a switch going into Week 7. Fields' dual-threat ability keeps him in the mix as a fantasy starter in single-QB leagues, and he gets a much more favorable matchup in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.
Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said on Monday that wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) is not in play to return for the team's Week 7 Monday night contest versus the Detroit Lions, according to Greg Auman of FOX Sports. Godwin didn't make his 2025 debut until Week 4 after recovering from a dislocated ankle last year, and he was only able to play in two games before suffering a fibula injury that kept him sidelined in the Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
It appears Godwin is going to miss a second game, too. With rookie Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) getting hurt on Sunday, and Mike Evans (hamstring) still out, the Bucs could be down to Sterling Shepard, Kameron Johnson, and Tez Johnson as their starters in three-wide sets in Week 7. If Godwin doesn't play next Monday night, his next chance to return would come in Week 8 against the division-rival New Orleans Saints.
