Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups - Quarterbacks (QBs)

In this space we will highlight some NFL quarterbacks that need to be considered on the week 8 waiver wire for your fantasy football teams.  Some of these quarterbacks may have a good matchup for week 8, have been putting up relevant points recently, or are just under owned.

Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire - Quarterbacks (QB)

Terrelle Pryor – Oakland Raiders – 32% owned in Yahoo leagues

Baller Move:  Add in All Leagues
Analysis: Pryor comes off his BYE week facing a rejuvenated Steelers team which just held the Baltimore Ravens to fewer than 300 total yards.  Even though Pryor stumbled in Week Six against the stellar Kansas City defense, he was able to sneak out a decent performance thanks to his 56 rushing yards, which offset his three INT.  Don’t overreact to one bad performance, especially considering that Pryor can throw from 200 to 250 yards and complement his passing game with 50+ rushing yards.  His legs are what set him apart from other quarterback options.  Outside of the Chiefs loss where he had 34 pass attempts, Pryor averaged 26 attempts per game, and we imagine the Raiders will stick with a conservative gameplan and not ask too much from him.  Pryor is underowned, and with Indianapolis and San Diego on bye, he is a commendable fill-in for Luck or Rivers.  He should also be stashed on any team with bench space, as he's already on the QB1 bubble with upside for more.

Ryan Tannehill – Miami Dolphins – 21% owned in Yahoo leagues

Baller Move: Add in Deep Leagues
Analysis: Tannehill couldn’t lead the Dolphins to a fourth-quarter comeback against Buffalo in Week Seven, mustering only a couple of failed drives and losing a fumble when his team needed him most.  He still threw for 194 yards with three TD and two INT, and with a weak running game, the Dolphins will keep looking to him to make plays on offense.  Week Eight will most likely be a challenging matchup against the New England Patriots defense, which just had four sacks and returned an INT for a touchdown against the Jets.  In his two starts last year against New England, he played it safe and threw for one TD and no INT, and had an average of 210 passing yards per game. But Tannehill’s much better at this point than he was when he last played the Pats, and he's a legitimate 250-yard passing threat with Mike Wallace as his main target.  He is a lower-end QB1 option who can fill in for a BYE week starter, with the range to put up a moderate to very good game.

Mike Glennon – Tampa Bay Bucs – 5% owned in Yahoo leagues

Baller Move: Stash in Deep Leagues
Analysis: Mike Glennon faces a short turnaround this Thursday with a matchup against the Carolina Panthers and their fourth-ranked defense. He’s fared much better than expected so far, but the last two weeks he has also faced two teams near the bottom in passing defense.  Still, he kept the Bucs in the game against the Falcons while throwing for 256 yards with two TDs and no picks, and also threw for 273 yards and two TDs a week earlier against the Eagles.  Not too shabby.  In his three starts, he’s averaging 43 pass attempts per game, and now that the Bucs have lost Doug Martin they will look to him even more for offense.  Glennon should have every shot to rack up passing yards, but that could be offset if he gets into INT trouble.
