Updated MLB Prospects Rankings - Top 25 Fantasy Baseball Prospects (Week 17)

Kyle Stowers - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Prospects, Draft Sleepers

Updated Top 25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings for Week 17. MLB prospects, rookies, and call-ups to make fantasy baseball impacts in 2022 redraft leagues.

This is going to be one of the most challenging articles of this fantasy baseball prospects series this season, as this is being written on the evening of July 31st, 2022 just a day and a half away from the trade deadline. There are several MLB-ready prospects that are being rumored in trade talks making the context on these players potentially change overnight. You can have someone being blocked become a starter, or you can see a team acquire a veteran blocking a potential prospect from coming up.

For those who are not familiar, this is another installment of our fantasy baseball prospects rankings series, reviewing MLB prospects to make fantasy impacts in 2022. For those who are not familiar, below you will find our updated list of the top-25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings to make an impact for the 2022 fantasy baseball season, which RotoBaller will be updating weekly. You’ll find quite a few well-known prospects on the list — as well as some lesser-known players that could nonetheless provide key contributions to your fantasy league teams this season.

As always, this weekly list is updated to reflect rest-of-season fantasy baseball values, and near-term impacts that these MLB prospects can make. Players who are playing in the minors but graduated from prospect status will also not be in the rankings.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings #1-5

Miguel Vargas and Alec Burleson remain number one and number two on my list. While they are both blocked at the moment from coming up, both have been named in trade rumors and could come up quickly. We will know in about a day or two what the plan is for them.

The Boston Red Sox appear to be sellers at the deadline expected to trade some of their expiring contracts. This indicates that they won't be going for a Trey Mancini or a Josh Bell, giving me optimism that Triston Casas comes up soon.

Shea Langliers flies up the list as Sean Murphy trade talks keep happening. If Murphy goes, Langliers is likely to start and be the primary catcher on the Oakland As. Langliers has a .363 OBP, a .248 ISO, 19 home runs, and five steals in 82 games at Triple-A. He also has a 10.9% walk rate which is very encouraging.

Ryan Pepiot also cracks the Top 5. The Nationals and Angels had scouts at his most recent start where he went seven innings , gave up two runs, and had four strikeouts. If a team trades for him, he likely is in their rotation.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings #6-10

DL Hall drops to number six on the list. Hall is at 60.2 innings pitched. In his last two starts he went 1.0 innings and then 0.1 innings where he allowed 6 runs. He has good stuff and 114 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched but he has control issues at times. I believe those last two starts are an attempt to limit his innings; I imagine had doesn't go over 100 innings on the season. Does that mean he makes some starts in Baltimore? We shall see. Tyler Wells just got hurt and Kyle Bradish is replaceable.

I do not know if Toronto trades Gabriel Moreno but he would make sense to be traded at this point.

Trey Mancini has been rumored to be traded as well. Kyle Stowers could slide in if that were to happen while various outfielders can get some games at DH.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings #11-25

These are guys that likely won't make an impact this season in fantasy. There are only a couple of months left but with trades, you never know.

Kyle Muller broke his non-throwing hand. He probably drops further as we wait for further updates on him.

Oswald Peraza and Jonathan Aranda could play right now, and if they are moved in a trade could get some playing time.

Gabriel Arias, Corbin Carroll, and Gunnar Henderson are players we likely do not see (again for Arias) until 2023. I still believe there is a slim chance of Carroll coming up at some point, especially with David Peralta traded away at least to try to generate some hype as the Diamondbacks go into next year. The contribution may not be material for fantasy though.
