BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 4% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: The Vikings lost starting-TE Irv Smith prior to Week 1 and Minny has been forced to play their reserves for three games and going. The main beneficiary: Tyler Conklin, who has led the position for the team in all three games and is coming off the best game of his career to date after posting a booming performance facing Seattle this past Sunday.
Is Conklin a TE1? No, he's not. This weekend's game was an absolute beauty, can't lie about that, but it's not that we can expect Conklin--even less in Minnesota's offense--to rack up 20 PPR points weekly. Conklin got targeted 8 times on Sunday and caught 7 of those passes for a neat 70 yards (10 YPR) and a touchdown. Can't ask for much more than that. The prior two weeks, though, Conklin was only an 8.1- and 3.5-PPR point performer finishing as the TE22 and TE32 of those slates respectively. But Conklin is the go-to player at the position above both Ben Ellefson and Chris Henderson.
The tight end position as a whole is off to a nightmarish production this season around the NFL, so trusting Conklin in relatively deep leagues isn't a crazy thing to do. Smith is going to miss the season, Conklin has taken sole possession of the starting gig at the position, and that won't change any time soon. The problem is that not even the likes of Adam Thielen/Justin Jefferson are getting more than 10 targets per game, so it's hard to see Conklin racking up 8 targets weekly. Even then, if you don't have a surefire TE1 Conklin should be good to stream given his situation in Minny's team.
