Top 25 Fantasy Baseball Prospects To Stash (Week 14): Redraft Rankings

James Wood - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rankings

Eric Cross's top 25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings for Week 14 (2024). MLB prospects, rookies, call-ups who can be fantasy baseball sleepers in redraft.

The month of June has been an exciting one for prospect promotions and we've seen players like Orelvis Martinez, Addison Barger, Ben Rice, Joey Loperfido, Heston Kjerstad, and Tyler Black get promoted or recalled recently. Unfortunately, Martinez's stint didn't last very long before he was popped for a banned substance that will cost him the next 80 games.

Even without those names, this week's stash still contains plenty of intriguing names that you should be stashing right now, headlined by James Wood and an exciting pair of third-base prospects.

Remember, stashing prospects should be done strategically and varies from league to league. Don't leave your teams without much depth just because you want all the high-upside prospects on your roster.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings Analysis

Noelvi Marte (3B - CIN)

I've seen people express concern that Noelvi Marte is struggling right now in Triple-A leading up to his being eligible to return from suspension later this week. I'm not one of those people, though. Marte is shaking off the rust after a long layoff and struggles like this aren't overly concerning in my eyes. Just remember the caliber of player we're talking about here with Marte, who combined for 27 doubles, 14 home runs, and 24 steals in just 127 games between the minors and the majors last season.

Coby Mayo (3B - BAL)

After missing a month with a broken rib, Coby Mayo is back to his mashing ways, cranking five doubles and four home runs in nine games since returning, resulting in a .394/.487/.909 slash line. He's currently on a four-game hitting streak for Triple-A Norfolk and has hits in eight of nine games since returning. Mayo might still be an injury away from getting a shot in Baltimore, but if he continues to mash while Ramon Urias hits .230, Mayo could force Baltimore's hand sooner than that.

Brooks Lee (SS - MIN)

A back injury cost Brooks Lee the first month and a half of the season, but the 2022 eighth overall pick has been hitting well since returning, especially over the last 10 games where he's slashing .391/.429/.739 with four doubles, four home runs, and only five strikeouts. Lee brings an above-average hit/power blend to the table while being able to play both spots on the left side of the infield. Those spots are currently occupied by Royce Lewis and Carlos Correa, but Lee is likely the next man up and could even slide over to second as well.

Dylan Crews (OF - WAS)

While it's been an underwhelming season when compared to the expectations for Dylan Crews entering the season, he's been heating up lately and got the bump to Triple-A last week. Over his last 22 games, Crews has hit .278 with five doubles, four home runs, and eight steals, and has picked up seven hits and two home runs in his last five games for Triple-A Rochester. The Washington outfield currently is filled by Lane Thomas, Jesse Winker, and Jacob Young, but Crews could get a shot sooner rather than later, likely over Young in center field.

Pedro Leon (OF - HOU) and Shay Whitcomb (INF - HOU)

While the Houston Astros don't have a clear opening right now at the major league level, both Pedro Leon and Shay Whitcomb are worth monitoring due to their respective performances this season.

Whitcomb already has racked up 17 home runs and 13 steals in 68 games while slashing an impressive .309/.390/.571 with an 11.3% walk rate and 22.3% strikeout rate. This comes after a 35/20 season in 2023, a 19/20 season in 2022, and a 23/30 season in 2021.

I'm not sure how high the AVG will be, but Whitcomb is the only prospect to have more than 80 home runs and 80 steals in the minors since the start of the 2021 season. He's started games at second base, third base, shortstop, and a few in the outfield as well, and that flexibility should only help him moving forward.

Mentioning 2021 in the Whitcomb blurb was a good segue into Leon as that's the year he made his Triple-A debut. And guess what... he's still there! Leon has played a whopping 330 games for Triple-A Sugar Land with mixed results. He's posted two straight seasons with at least 17 home runs and 21 steals, but his highest single-season AVG was .244 last season. However, here in 2024, Leon is slashing .297/.386/.518 with 20 doubles, 13 home runs, and 18 steals. The contact skills remain a question, but the power/speed blend gives Leon some intrigue for fantasy.

Jhonkensy Noel (CI - CLE) and Jose Tena (SS - CLE)

Another American League prospect duo raking in Triple-A is Jhonkensy Noel and Jose Tena. In 322 plate appearances, Tena has racked up 14 doubles, 14 home runs, and 10 steals with a .297/.345/.487 slash line. He's a bit aggressive, but there's a sneaky power/speed blend here and Cleveland could turn to him to replace the light-hitting Brayan Rocchio.

As for Noel, he's enjoying a major bounce-back season here in 2024 after hitting .229 and .220 over the last two seasons. Noel is already up to 15 doubles and 18 home runs in 65 games while slashing a .295/.359/.578 slash line. It's also encouraging to see him trim the strikeout rate for the second consecutive season. I'm still not projecting him to hit more than .250-.260 or so, but the power upside here is legit.
