NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 4/25/23

The 2022-2023 National Hockey League regular season has come and gone. We had our fair share of surprise teams failing and succeeding, as well as, a few big trade splashes throughout the season. With the closure of the regular season, we welcome another run of postseason play and content. During the playoffs, it is much more common to find low-scoring and heavy-hitting games. Keep in mind that teams that showcase a high aptitude to score goals, will play much tighter and be a bit pickier with their shots. Tonight we have a 3-game slate with no teams playing on a back-to-back. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Edmonton with 4, Carolina with 3.1 and Dallas with 3. I will do my best to guide you through this three-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Vegas Odds for the Day

Playoff Series Standings:

New York Islanders 1 at Carolina Hurricanes 3

Minnesota Wild 2 at Dallas Stars 2

Los Angeles Kings 2 at Edmonton Oilers 2

Goalies

Frederik Andersen - DK $8K || FD $7.6K

Opponent - New York Islanders

Andersen has been out for the entirety of playoffs until now and he is expected to slide into the starters net right away. Over the season he had a record of 21-11-1 with a 2.48 Goals Against Average and a 0.903 Save Percentage while battling injuries throughout the season. Not only will Andersen be making his postseason debut in 2023, but he will also have the opportunity to close out the season at home. Whether the Hurricanes are able to clinch the series in front of their PNC Arena faithful or not, Andersen is expected to see a fair amount of chances against with the Islanders desperate to keep their playoffs alive. In three games against the Islanders this season, he went 2-1 with a 2.67 Goals Against Average and a 0.905 Save Percentage.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Oettinger (DK $7.8K || FD $7.8K), Gustavsson (DK $7.5K || FD $8,4K)

Centers

Connor McDavid - DK $10.3K || FD $10K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

As anticipated, the Oilers are not writing history with their defense and goaltending in the postseason – same storyline during the regular season –, conceding an average of 3 goals against per game. This has put even more pressure on their stars like centerman Connor McDavid. He has not turned his head though in the face of adversity with 2 goals, 4 assists, 20 shots and 2 blocked shots in 4 games this series. If Edmonton is going to produce any positive hockey outcome, McDavid’s name is more often than not going to be associated with it and that won’t be any different in a massive Game 5 at home.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hintz (DK $6.9K || FD $7.4K), Vilardi (DK $4.4K || FD $4.7K)

Wings

Tyler Seguin - DK $5.1K || FD $4.7K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

Somehow Seguin has gone back and forth between $4.7K and $5.1K on DraftKings over the last few contests, despite producing top-talent numbers in a prime position. The third line center/winger has taken over for injured teammate Joe Pavelski on the top line and the top power-play unit and in that time, Seguin has 3 goals, 12 shots and 2 blocked shots. The Stars are another team playing at home tonight in a must-win matchup to take a series lead to Minnesota. The Stars are averaging 3 goals per game and the top line of the Stars is equalling 60 percent of those goals. Seguin is the perfect ‘value-play’ while paying up elsewhere.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Fiala (DK $6.4K || FD $5.2K), Palmieri (DK $4.6K || FD $5.9K)

Defense

Ryan Pulock - DK $4.1K || FD $4.2K

Opponent - Carolina Hurricanes

Many would expect Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers to be highlighted here, however, we are going to change it up and look at the Islanders who are in a must-win scenario. Pulock does not see power-play minutes anymore, however, he is still on the top pairing for the Islanders and he has double-digit points on DraftKings in three of the four games played this series so far thanks to his peripheral play. Pulock is laying his body down on the line to block shots right now and he will be doing that plus more in a do-or-die situation at PNC Arena tonight.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Heiskanen (DK $5.6K || FD $6.8K), Bouchard (DK $5.2K || FD $5.5K)
