NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 3/14/23

The trade market has officially come and gone and teams are gearing up for a tough stretch of very meaningful games and playoffs in hopes of a date with Lord Stanley. Tonight we have a 12-game slate with two teams playing on a back-to-back: Montreal and Dallas. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Pittsburgh with 4.4, Edmonton with 4.3 and Boston with 4.2. I will do my best in guiding you through this twelve-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Vegas Odds for the Day

Goalies

Juuse Saros- DK $8K || FD $8.6K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

There are a few viable options in net tonight, however, Saros will make the article thanks to his prime matchup. The netminder has won just twice over his last five games while conceding 13 goals. However, tonight he hosts the Red Wings who have scored a measly 7 goals in their last five away games. This is the closest thing to a ‘lock’ tonight at the goalie position.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Swayman (DK $8.3K || FD $9K), Schmid (DK $7.8K || FD $7.8K)

Centers

Tommy Novak-DK $4.6K || FD $5.7K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

Novak is in a similar position to his netminder against the Red Wings. Not only is Detroit performing terribly offensively when away, but also defensively. The visitors are tied for the second-most Goals Against Per 60 over their last five away games on the slate – 4.4 –.Through Novak’s previous five games, he has 3 goals, 2 assists, 10 shots and 4 blocked shots. With all of the movement in the Predators’ locker room, Novak has been one of the most consistent players and he has a prime matchup to continue his form.

Evgeni Malkin- DK $6.4K || FD $7.4K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

The Penguins are catching fire and quickly and it is all thanks to Malkin. In his last five games, he has 9 assists and 14 shots. There have been multiple games now over this stretch where Malkin has shown composure and steadiness when it mattered most. Over the season, the Canadiens remain in the bottom ten in the league in both Shots Against Per 60 and Goals Against Per 60. Furthermore, they are in the bottom five in the league in both Scoring Chances Against Per 60 and High Danger Chances Against Per 60. With the Penguins getting plenty of power-play time as of late, Malkin is in line for a big night.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): McDavid (DK $10.1K || FD $10.7K), Hischier (DK $6.9K || FD $7.6K)

Wings

Patrik Laine- DK $6.5K || FD $7.1K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

The Sharks have conceded a slate-high 26 goals over their last five home games and Patrik Laine has 4 goals in his last five games. Is there anything else that needs to be said? In all honesty, though, the Sharks went from trying to actively tanking for prized prospect Connor Bedard who is expected to go 1st overall in the upcoming NHL Draft. Expected goalie James Reimer has also conceded 18 goals in his last five games for the Sharks. The Blue Jackets have had a few opportunities over the past month to capitalize on and they haven’t. Although, this is the biggest spot they have had though in quite some time.

Evander Kane- DK $6.3K || FD $7.2K

Opponent - Ottawa Senators

Outside of Blue Jackets winger Patrik Laine, Evander Kane is by far the best-valued winger in the $6K salary range on DraftKings tonight and he possesses one of the best ceilings too. Kane is back from his injury and he was immediately thrust onto the top-line with Connor McDavid. In two games since his return, he has 1 goal and 3 shots. The rust was expected after being out for almost a month and both matches were against top-end teams – Boston and Toronto –. Now Kane and Edmonton get the best matchup since their 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The Senators have completed a full 180, for the worse. They have lost 3 of their last five games and over the last five away games, they are tied for the second-worst Goals Against Per 60 on the slate – 4.4 –. Against a high-powered offense like Edmonton, the Senators will have their hands full and Kane is expected to be at the center of the scoring.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Guentzel (DK $7.1K || FD $6.5K), Marchand (DK $6.6K || FD $7.1K)

Defense

Adam Boqvist- DK $3.5K || FD $4.5K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

There are multiple paths to take at defense tonight, especially the value defensemen. Boqvist however is in one of the best matchups on the slate despite Columbus not being able to capitalize in good spots as of late. In his last five games, he has 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots and 7 blocked shots. With Boqvist still on the top power-play for Columbus, he should see plenty of chances tonight against one of the worst defenses in the league.

Evan Bouchard- DK $4.3K || FD $4.3K

Opponent - Ottawa Senators

Bouchard is in a similar spot compared to Adam Boqvist of the Columbus Blue Jackets, however, Bouchard and company are much more reliable. Furthermore, the Senators have been outscored 13 to 22 in their last five away games. This is a great spot for a Bouchard blow-up night in Edmonton. Over his last five games, he has 1 goal, 5 assists, 13 shots and 2 blocked shots. For the amount of ice time he is seeing, his peripherals are yet to reach expectations, however, he remains on one of the top power-play units in the league.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Pionk (DK $4.7K || FD $5.1K), Sandin (DK $3.8K || FD $4.6K)
