ANALYSIS: Houston Texans rookie WR Tank Dell had a quiet Week 1 debut against the Baltimore Ravens but didn’t wait long to have his breakout game, which came in Week 2 against divisional rival Indianapolis Colts.
Dell caught seven passes on a team-high 10 targets netting 72 total yards, as well as finding the endzone for a touchdown.
The University of Houston product has immediately worked his way into a starting role in the offense, playing 79% of snaps in Week 2 which was second to only WR Robert Woods amongst Texans pass-catchers.
Dell was no stranger to this type of production during his time in college as well, where he had back-to-back seasons with 1300+ yards and 12+ touchdowns.
This Houston Texans passing offense has also surpassed pre-season expectations. Rookie QB C.J. Stroud is currently averaging 313 yards per game, which ranks fourth amongst NFL quarterbacks in 2023.
While the Texans are having success through the air, it’s unclear who Stroud's number-one target will be throughout the season as we have seen healthy doses of targets to not only Dell and Woods but to WR Nico Collins as well.
That being said, Dell’s immediate impact and skillset make him a sure-fire waiver wire add as he could very well end up being the Texans' number-one wide receiver for the remainder of the 2023 season.
