Sam Darnold is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for quarterbacks. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 18 of the 2022 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Last week (W16) might have looked more an outlier than a proper outing by Sam Darnold in the eyes of some fantasy GMs. That should no longer be the case, though, with Darnold coming off his second consecutive top-12 game of the season having virtually replicated the results from two weeks ago scoring 21.6 FP at Tampa Bay after hitting 21.9 hosting Detroit on Christmas.
Darnold might have found a home in Carolina after struggling as a pro for a few years. After recovering from injury and starting a game for the first time in W12, Darnold has now done so five times this season while never finishing a slate outside of the top 20 when it comes to quarterbacks.
The Panthers ultimately lost to the Bucs on Sunday but Darnold had his best passing game of the season completing 23-of-37 passes for a season-high 341 yards and 3 TDs on the day while also getting picked off once, his first INT of the year. More worrying were the three fumbles, making it four through his five starts.
One way or another, Darnold has always found a way to score at least one touchdown in every game he's played (9 TDs through five games, seven passing and two rushing the ball) and he's only thrown one interception over his full 125-attempt tally.
Darnold might not be a world-beater nor a league-winning QB, but the truth is that he's in possession of the 16th-best FPPG average among quarterbacks with at least 125 attempts this season, making him a viable streaming option for those managing in deeper leagues ahead of the final game of the season.
