RIVAL Over/Under Picks – Monday, February 6, 2023

From this point on, we will track how these picks do, and barring any embarrassment, these preceding paragraphs will be filled with previous picks and recaps of how those picks performed.

The positive aspect of this is that regardless of the outcome, you can always use my picks on how not to bet.

DeMar DeRozan UNDER 42.93 fantasy points

The Bulls have struggled this season, mainly against Western Conference opponents, going 5-11 against them this year. The Spurs have already won the first matchup between these two teams and DeMar DeRozan put up 33 points with next to no peripheral stats. Chicago relies on DeRozan’s ability every game, but currently Zach LaVine is playing the role of the hot hand and is rightfully demanding more usage in the offense. Even though DeRozan should and will have a decent game here, he hasn’t been posting massive stat lines and the Spurs roster isn’t exactly the type that gives up a ton of rebounds and assists despite not having much star power.

Lauri Markkanen OVER 36.17 fantasy points

When the Jazz are playing well, Lauri Markkanen is the main beneficiary. If he’s on track for another 25-point, 10-rebound game, that’s pretty much all we need from him barring a few turnovers. The Mavericks have just shifted focus away from what they had and are fully invested in Kyrie Irving and a defense that centers around Dwight Powell. Assuming those stay true, there will be a height difference of something like two feet between both starting lineups with Markkanen still as the go-to guy.

Darius Garland OVER 37.57 fantasy points

The Donovan Mitchell-Darius Garland tandem is one of those most underrated duos in the league with how little they pull from each other’s strengths. Granted, Mitchell’s 71-point game did come on a night where Garland didn’t play, but nevertheless, Garland is among the league leaders in production and consistency playing alongside a generational talent. Even if the Wizards were fully healthy, their backcourt defense is lacking to the point that Monte Morris has no hope but to try and dish out everything he is served on defense.

Monte Morris OVER 22.46 fantasy points

With no Kyle Kuzma, the Wizards' offense becomes arguably stagnant. Yes, Kristaps Porzingis can literally just turn and shoot over every defender, but in games where he isn’t hitting, it’s not hard to see why he simply won’t. Monte Morris, on the other hand, has to play the conductor and act as one of the few ball handlers that can bring the ball up the court and attack in the right situation. Until it’s clear what direction this offense goes in, assuming they continue to roll with Porzingis as their guy, Morris will be the one setting him up for most of his shots.
