Week 3 Waiver Wire Outlooks
Daniel Jones, QB, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones posted his second straight stellar performance in his team's 29-28 victory over the Denver Broncos. Jones completed 23 of 34 passes for 316 yards and one touchdown, adding another touchdown as a rusher as well. Jones has now thrown for 588 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions across the first two games of the season. He's rushed for three scores as well.
The 28-year-old is in his first year in Indianapolis after six underwhelming seasons with the New York Giants. Jones has been far better than expectations so far with the Colts, and may deserve consideration as a waiver-wire pickup in fantasy. He'll play his first road game of the season in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans.
Cam Skattebo, RB, New York Giants
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo rushed for 45 yards on 11 rushing attempts and a touchdown while catching two of three targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Skattebo broke off a 24-year run in the fourth quarter, which was the longest run of the day for the Giants. He later punched it in for his first career touchdown.
Skattebo outpaced Tyrone Tracy Jr. 11 to five in rushing attempts on Sunday and could have earned more touches with his great performance against Dallas. Skattebo will look to build on Sunday's performance in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Giants' rookie RB is only rostered in 58% of leagues and is worth picking up for fantasy teams needing help at running back.
Troy Franklin, WR, Denver Broncos
It’s possible that Sean Payton just trolls us all season long with WR usage beyond Courtland Sutton, but we have to react to Franklin’s strong game. The second-year wideout now leads the team in targets (15), catches (12), yards (133), air yards (179), and yards per route run (2.61).
That last figure is tied with CeeDee Lamb for ninth in the NFL among players with at least 50 routes run (before MNF). That’s not to say he’s suddenly a top-25 option, but burying your head in the sand will leave you in the dust.
Jake Browning, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow appears to require surgery on a severe case of turf toe, which will take him out for roughly three months. This leaves Browning to step up while the team explores a trade, and while he threw a trio of ugly interceptions against Jacksonville, he also scored three TDs (two passing, one rushing) in a 31-27 win.
You may recall that Browning posted top-10 fantasy performances in 5-of-6 weeks down the stretch in 2023 while Burrow dealt with a wrist ligament injury. It’s been two years since then, and he has road games against Minnesota and Denver on the horizon, but any QB with Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Chase Brown has a high ceiling.
