1 day agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall has some nice upside heading into a Week 4 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hall has looked like the more explosive back in the Jets backfield, but he is still going to split carries and targets with Michael Carter. Still, the rookie is the preferred play. With Zach Wilson (knee) expected back under center, the Jets offense may rely more on the running game than they did with Joe Flacco, potentially giving Hall more touches. Facing a Steelers defense that struggles against the run without T.J. Watt (pectoral), Hall could have some sneaky RB2 value in Week 4.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
4 days agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall got 14 touches in a Week 3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Hall ran the ball eight times, gaining 39 yards. He also caught six passes, gaining 53 more yards. He was targeted 11 times, leading the team. Quarterback Joe Flacco was inaccurate all day, but it was definitely encouraging to see Hall get so many targets even while splitting backfield time with Michael Carter. With Zach Wilson (knee) expected back in Week 4, the Jets offense should continue to improve.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com
1 week agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall has gotten his NFL career off to a solid start, and will look for more of that in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. In his first two professional games, Hall has 152 yards on 23 touches, and scored his first touchdown in the Week 2 comeback win. Hall is still splitting the backfield with Michael Carter, who is officially the Jets starter, but the rookie has been the more impressive runner and is heavily involved in the offense despite not being officially atop the depth chart. Hall has RB2 upside, but settles in more as a solid RB3 for Week 3 lineups.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
2 weeks agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall scored his first NFL touchdown in a Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns. Hall ran the ball seven times for 50 yards and caught his only passing game target for a 10-yard touchdown. Hall and Carter both got seven carries, but the rookie outperformed Carter, gaining the same amount of yards on his longest carry (23) as Carter got in total. Carter did get five passing game targets compared to just one for Hall, however. The two backs will continue to split the backfield work for the Jets, although this may be the game where Hall starts to separate himself from Carter into the "bigger half" of the shared position.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com
2 weeks agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall has a decent matchup coming up in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns. Hall showed some good flashes in Week 1, running the ball six times and seeing 10 passing game targets. He's working behind Michael Carter, but there should still be plenty to go around for both backs to be fantasy relevant, especially if Hall carves out more of a passing game role in Week 2. He's a solid FLEX option with upside and should continue to see his fantasy arrow point up as the season moves on.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
3 weeks agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall ran the ball six times in a Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. His six rushing attempts totaled 23 yards, and he caught six of 10 targets for another 38 yards. Hall was clearly running as the RB2 behind starter Michael Carter, but Hall got a lot more run in the fourth quarter after an ugly sure-touchdown drop by Carter. With a negative game script almost all game, it was hard to tell how the Jets plan on using their running backs in closer contests. Still, it was made clear that neither Hall nor Carter will be taking over the backfield for themselves any time soon.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com
3 weeks agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall is a classic example of a floor-ceiling/boom-bust option in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. Hall has the elite three-down skillset to be a player who doesn't need to leave the field when his team is on offense. His draft status (top of round 2) also indicates that the Jets are planning on having him take over the backfield at some point. That point may not be Week 1, though, as Michael Carter figures to still be heavily involved. While we won't know the split until we see it, most Jets writers are predicting something close to a 50-50 timeshare to start the season. That makes Hall a risky play in Week 1 lineups, but one who certainly could have upside.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: Rotoballer
1 month agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall carried the ball four times in Monday's preseason game, gaining just one yard. The Jets rested every projected offensive starter, including running back Michael Carter. Hall started and played with the second-team offense, but didn't do too much. He hasn't done a lot to show that he deserves a full starting role, so this backfield seems set to be a split between Hall and Carter, at least at the start of the season. With a less than stellar offensive line and an offense in general that isn't expected to impress much, neither Hall nor Carter will likely have top-tier value this season.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com
2 months agoNew York Jets rookie running back Breece Hall got five carries in Friday's preseason game, gaining 15 yards. Hall was listed third on the Jets running back depth chart, and played behind starter Michael Carter. Carter and Hall both worked with the first team offense before quarterback Zach Wilson left with a knee injury. Opening preseason play behind Carter isn't the best sign for Hall's rookie season usage, but the first preseason game also shouldn't be looked into too deeply. Next week's game against the Falcons will be more telling.--David A Marcillo - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com
2 months agoNew York Jets running back Michael Carter is the incumbent after leading the team in rushing as a rookie in 2021, but the sense is that rookie Breece Hall will overtake him at some point this year. Carter ran for 639 rushing yards and 4.3 yards per carry, but he's on the smaller side and doesn't have breakaway speed. Hall, on the other hand, is bigger, faster and a better receiver than Carter. The Jets have high hopes for Hall, although there will likely be early growing pains as he learns to transition away from his ultra-patient running style. Given the expectation that Hall will eventually become the primary backfield threat for the Jets in 2022, he should be targeted as a low-end RB2, with Carter being more of an RB3/4 or handcuff in fantasy drafts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN New York - Rich Cimini
2 months agoNew York Jets rookie second-round running back Breece Hall, who has been at the team's facilities Tuesday morning, is expected to sign his four-year rookie deal in time for rookies to report on Tuesday, according to a source. It was reported earlier that Hall was officially a holdout as rookies reported to training camp for the Jets, but it looks like that won't be the case. Hall was the consensus top running back in this year's draft class, and he's expected to be the Jets' No. 1 RB in his rookie season in what could be a run-heavy offense. Michael Carter will still be involved, mostly as a pass-catcher, but Hall should handle most of the early down work. The 21-year-old should be in the RB2 mix in fantasy drafts this fall.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
3 months agoNew York Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur was impressed with rookie second-round running back Breece Hall during offseason workouts. "He's 220 pounds, and he's covering a lot of yardage when he doesn't look like he's covering a lot of yardage," LaFleur said. "He's fast, so he gets up on people pretty quick. And then he's such a fluid, big-body target that when he makes his move it's not like a smaller running back when you feel like you have to put it on them. He's got a big catch radius and I know the quarterback is going to feel that." Hall and Michael Carter are expected to share RB duties in 2022, but Hall is expected to take over the lion's share of duties sooner than later, making him an RB2 target in fantasy in his rookie season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NewYorkJets.com - Jack Bell
5 months agoThe New York Jets will deploy a running back by committee as long as Mike LaFleur is their offensive coordinator. Running back Breece Hall is the team's new starter after the Jets selected him in the second round of the NFL draft last Friday. Michael Carter will spell Hall to form a solid one-two punch for New York's backfield in 2022. Carter impressed as the Jets best RB last year, but Hall, 20, ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the combine in February, and the former Iowa State star has a workhorse frame with big-play potential at the position. Hall had an impressive resume in college, justifying him as the first RB off the board in the draft. While his upside will be limited with Carter in the picture, Hall could be a solid RB2 for fantasy managers in his rookie season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic - Connor Hughes
5 months agoThe Jets, who acquired the No. 36 overall pick from the Giants, selected Iowa State running back Breece Hall on Friday during the NFL Draft. After New York made a splash in the first round by taking Ahmad Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson, the team continued to move toward the future by taking arguably the best back in the draft, a player who had a rushing touchdown in 24 consecutive collegiate outings. The selection isn't good news for Michael Carter Jr., although he may split time with Hall during the 2022-23 campaign.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
5 months agoOn Wednesday, an ESPN Insider report from Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano speculated on what the Buffalo Bills might do with their first-round pick (25th overall). According to Fowler and Graziano, there is some belief across the league that the Bills could make something of a "luxury pick" at No. 25 due to the fact that they have no clear and immediate needs on their roster. In this case, Iowa State running back Breece Hall could fit the "luxury pick" criteria perfectly. Widely regarded as the top running back in the draft, Hall could give the Bills elite offense a new dynamic. Fowler and Graziano wrote, "Hall would give them an explosive playmaker at the position that new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey could use in tandem with Devin Singletary."--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
