Zac Veen Lands With Rockies In First Round
5 years agoThe Colorado Rockies selected Spruce Creek High School outfielder Zac Veen with the ninth overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft on Wednesday. Veen was in consideration as the top high school bat in this year's draft class. His swing from the left side of the plate has been compared to Cody Bellinger and Christian Yelich, so he could be an absolute star playing at hitter-friendly Coors Field in the big leagues. His 6-foot-4 frame is extremely projectable. Veen doesn't hit for a ton of power right now, but it should develop and he already has the ability to loft balls consistently. The 18-year-old played center field in high school, but scouts project him for a corner outfield spot down the road.
