Yu Darvish Dealing With Back Tightness
3 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish (back, hip) has worked through some back tightness over his last four to five starts, which had been "fine" until his disastrous outing against the Washington Nationals on Thursday, according to manager Jayce Tingler. The Padres pulled Darvish early as a precaution after the right-hander felt like his front left hip tightened up as well. The 34-year-old allowed six earned runs on eight hits in just three innings on Thursday, and he also allowed four earned runs on six hits (two homers) in six innings his previous start against the Philadelphia Phillies, so it's very likely that his back/hip have been affecting his performance this month. It doesn't sound serious, but it definitely bears watching. The good news is that Darvish will get to rest up during the All-Star break next week. Even with his last two rough outings, Darvish has a tidy 3.09 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 125 K's in 105 innings, so fantasy managers will be hoping this back issue doesn't stick around heading into the second half.
