Yankees Talking With Brett Gardner
4 years agoThe New York Yankees last spoke with free-agent outfielder Brett Gardner a little more than a week ago, according to a source. Gardner intends to play in 2021, and the Yankees are clearly his top choice. The veteran outfielder was the club's longest-tenured player in 2020, appearing in his 13th season with the Yankees. The YES Network's Jack Curry expects to two sides to eventually work something out. Gardner can play all three outfield spots and has a .259/.343/.401 career slash line (101 OPS+) with 129 home runs and 270 stolen bases in 1,548 games. New York declined the 37-year-old's $10 million option for 2021, making him a free agent. Gardner played in 49 games in the shortened 2020 season and hit .223/.354/.392 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 130 at-bats.
