3 years agoThe New York Yankees selected Eastern Illinois shortstop Trey Sweeney at No. 20 overall in the 2021 MLB amateur draft on Sunday. Sweeney is one of the top college hitters in this draft. He barrels the ball a lot to all fields and has impressive exit velocities. There's a lot going on with his big leg kick in his left-handed swing, but he makes up for it with excellent hand-eye coordination. Sweeney should develop at least average power at the next level, and a power-hitting left-handed hitter usually has a good time at Yankee Stadium. However, his below-average speed and size (6-foot-4, 200 pounds) means that a position change is likely in his future. But Sweeney has plenty of bat to stick at a corner infield or outfield position down the road.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
