Yandy Diaz Starting At Third Base Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Yandy Diaz is making the start at third base and is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Diaz was dealing with a shoulder injury in the latter half of September. He returned to the starting lineup last Friday but didn't start any of the previous three games. The 31-year-old Cuban slugger is back in there in the leadoff spot again on Tuesday, and the fact that he's back on defense is a good sign as the regular season wraps up and the Rays get ready for their wild-card series this weekend. Diaz doesn't have a ton of power (nine home runs), but he has a strong .297 batting average and a .403 on-base percentage with 57 RBI, 71 runs scored and three stolen bases in 471 at-bats in 2022.
