Yandy Diaz Starting At Third Base Tuesday
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays infielder Yandy Diaz is making the start at third base and is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Diaz was dealing with a shoulder injury in the latter half of September. He returned to the starting lineup last Friday but didn't start any of the previous three games. The 31-year-old Cuban slugger is back in there in the leadoff spot again on Tuesday, and the fact that he's back on defense is a good sign as the regular season wraps up and the Rays get ready for their wild-card series this weekend. Diaz doesn't have a ton of power (nine home runs), but he has a strong .297 batting average and a .403 on-base percentage with 57 RBI, 71 runs scored and three stolen bases in 471 at-bats in 2022.
