Wilyer Abreu To Play Against Right-Handers
8 months agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that outfielder Wilyer Abreu will play every game against right-handed pitchers. It's why outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela got the start at shortstop on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians. Abreu made his major-league debut last year and slashed .316/.388/.474 with an .862 OPS, two home runs, 14 RBI, three stolen bases and 10 runs scored in just 28 games played. In his first 11 contests in 2024, Abreu has gone 6-for-26 (.231) with no homers, two RBI and a steal in 29 plate appearances. The 24-year-old can be an asset for those in deep-mixed fantasy leagues now that he'll be playing regularly. He's a strong defender and will be mostly useful in leagues that count on-base percentage due to his patient approach as a hitter.
