6 years agoThe Kansas City Royals moved utility man Whit Merrifield to second base recently due to concern over the wear and tear of playing the outfield every day, but they've reversed course on that decision now that they've elected to bring up Nicky Lopez. Merrifield assured management that he'd have no problem handling the job, so they felt comfortable with the move, but it does open up the possibility that it could impact Merrifield's performance in some way. Since so much of his value is dependent on his speed and the team was already concerned, it's possible that Merrifield's steals may take a slight dip if he or management think he's taking too much of a beating.
