Wendell Smallwood Expected To Handle Pass-Catching Role
3 years agoWith Washington Football Team running back J.D. McKissic (concussion) out in Week 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders, running back Wendell Smallwood -- not rookie Jaret Patterson -- is expected to fill McKissic's pass-catching role behind starter Antonio Gibson. Regardless, Gibson is expected to have a pretty huge role in this game after seeing at least 19 carries in each of the last three games. He's a must-start with RB1 upside this weekend. Patterson hasn't played more than 23% of the offensive snaps in any one game in his rookie year, and he has only two catches for nine yards on three targets. Smallwood hasn't seen a touch in a game since 2019, although he does have 56 career receptions for 452 yards and two touchdowns in five NFL seasons. It's fair to wonder if Smallwood's role will be big enough to warrant flex consideration in deep PPR leagues.
