Violent Wreck Ends William Byron's Day At Indianapolis Prematurely
5 months agoWilliam Byron finished 38th in Sunday's Brickyard 400 from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Despite qualifying fourth for Sunday's race, Byron never looked like a legit threat to kiss the bricks on Sunday afternoon as he struggled to maintain track position throughout the day. After dropping out of the top-10, Byron found himself running 16th on lap 74 when the No. 14, No. 21, and No. 41 attempted to go three wide, resulting in contact to be made to the back of Byron's No. 24 Chevy Camaro. Fortunately for the Hendrick Motorsports star, the result of the accident was just a bad finish as the visual of him hitting the wall looked like it could have resulted in a serious injury. Given that NASCAR will now enter its Olympic break, the timing of the accident becomes a bit of a catch-22. While on the one hand the break allows Byron to rest up, he also has to go three weeks with the bitter taste of a next to last place finish in his mouth, something that will likely make him fired up when the Cup Series returns on August 11.
