Tyrann Mathieu Up In The Air For Sunday
3 years agoKansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu remains up in the air for Sunday's season-opener against the Cleveland Browns. Mathieu is vaccinated, but he remains on the league's COVID-19 list and must return two negative tests 48 hours apart in order to be cleared before Sunday. The 29-year-old also must remain asymptomatic. The deadline to activate the star safety will be this Saturday. Mathieu, a two-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, is a hybrid safety/cornerback for the Chiefs and is extremely valuable for his on-field IQ and excellent physical tools. In 15 starts in 2020, he had 62 tackles (48 solo), six interceptions (one for a TD), nine passes defensed and a fumble recovery. The Chiefs defensive unit will be even more of a shaky low-end starting fantasy unit if Mathieu is inactive in the opener.
