Tyler Soderstrom on the Bench on Tuesday
Tyler Soderstrom is out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday versus the hosting Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field. With Soderstrom getting a day off, rookie outfielder Colby Thomas will make his first major-league start in left field and batting eighth against Rays right-hander Shane Baz. This will be Soderstrom's second day off of the 2025 season. The 23-year-old left-handed slugger has been a strong source of power in his third season in the big leagues, clubbing 14 home runs and driving in 47 while batting .253/.336/.429 with a career-best .766 OPS in 86 games played. Thomas has intriguing power and speed, but it remains to be seen how much playing time he'll get with the A's. The former third-rounder hit an impressive .297 (92-for-310) with 17 homers, 70 RBI and seven steals in 76 games in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League for Triple-A Las Vegas.
