Tyler Allgeier Will Still Have A Role
1 year agoThe Atlanta Falcons drafted rookie running back Bijan Robinson eighth overall in this year's NFL draft because they plan to use him a lot, but they also don't want to overuse him. They don't have to overwork Robinson because they still have Tyler Allgeier, who set the franchise's rookie rushing record in 2022 (210 carries for 1,035 yards). The Athletic's Josh Kendall is predicting that Robinson will see 301 total touches in his first NFL season, with Allgeier seeing 170 touches (158 carries). "We may have the idea that we want to get guys a certain number of carries and then all of a sudden Allgeier gets a hot hand and what you're doing with him is working," head coach Arthur Smith said. "Don't be rigid. We have to win the game." Allgeier loses a lot of fantasy appeal with Robinson now in the fold, but he's still worthy of being taken in drafts as the handcuff to the rookie.
